Wonderfully detailed photo of this special bird, against a very complementary background. Not too sure about the center position, though. In my top five favs, anyway. Congrats with this very nice result for your first time entry

I would have liked it better if the bird was not centered, but still a beautiful shot of a beautiful bird. Love the colors.

Nice looking bird. I think I would have been tempted to desaturate the background somewhat to make the bird stand out more plus cropping in a little if possible to stop the bird from being too central. GL.

Further to my previous comment about the beauty of this lovely photo.. the color is stunning and I love the symmetry and balance.. This is a photo that I have come back to a number of times.. each time I like it more..

Very sharp and a beautiful pose you captured here. The simplicity of the branch is outstanding. The blending and subtlety of the colours is fantastic. Well done on an excellent image.

beautiful capture. background color may lessen the impact of the bird but nothing you could do about it. well done.

Beautiful colour and excellent DOF. The bird would have all but disappeared without the fine detail in the feathers and the blurriness of the background

clarity, colors, composition - they're all there. Bird deserves a little bird treat for striking such a great pose

Lovely, simple composition. Nicely blurred background. The white balance seems off -- overly green.

at first I didn't like the green background but looking at a larger image it has added to it

What a beautiful study of this bird in it's element. I love the partially open wing and the open tail displaying it's lovely colour. The perch is perfectly positioned to support your composition and draw the eye to the bird and the blurred background leaves us with no distractions. Excellent presentation all round.

I keep coming back to this one and keep wondering why. It is the colour and the technical quality that is for certain.

But after considerable pondering I realize it is because it is a uniquely clean capture and stunningly beautiful image with the Zen like simplicity of a finely crafted Japanese art image.

And it is that most unusual capture, a fresh perspective in avian photography. Does anyone ever capture a bird in this sort of complex pose this cleanly? Come up with something novel in a well photographed subject, and it demands attention and recognition.

Simply deserving to be in the top picks.
