Haunted Cottage       ©2016 ysal
Panasonic DMC-GX7       12th place, 78 points
1/1000s, f8, ISO 250, 28mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: This was shot in standard color mode, then converted using the software's Convert to Black & White tool. There was one distracting tree behind the building which I cloned out. Denoised, sharpened, cropped and resized. Clouds would have added drama, but there was not a cloud in the sky that day.       Extra Info: This was taken at a local botanic garden. Back in the 1800's, a very rich man owned a huge piece of land and he built this "cottage" for his wife, which sits on a small natural lake. Many years later, the city purchased part of the property, including the cottage, and converted into a public botanical garden.

This cottage is known to be one of the most haunted places in our city.

    Had this as my #5.

Thank you Lo! However, I've never entered a color version of this. I'll put one up in the Outtakes section.

This was in my TT as well. I know you entered a coloured version a while back, but I thought the effect in B&W was stunning.

What a beautiful house! I think I'd willingly brave the ghosts to explore it. High in my favourites.

I love this photo. The house stands out white and sharp against the black sky. I think clouds might have distracted from the house. I like that finial on top jutting into the black. Well done.

The play of light and shadows on this beautiful old building really makes it pop out in B&W. The "gingerbread" carving is wonderfully detailed.

Nice composition. While the strong contrast is striking, the sky is a bit too dark for my taste.

The bright building and dark sky is a bit awkward... But it does add to the title "haunted", so well done!

I would prefer to have a vertical using the spire as the end point.
agree clouds would have been a plus point

Nice lighting but the composition is needing a focal point.
