  #169 The New Millennium
Entry 4 of 20
Young Racers       ©2016 Jade O.
Panasonic DMC-FZ30       4th place, 128 points
1/639s, f8, ISO 80, 283mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Cropped, cloned out distractions, adjust contrast, brightness, colour, and played in layers to get the colour and exposure just right, and a little denoise at the end.       Extra Info: Competitors at the summit watch the start of the head to head elimination rounds while waiting their run.

(I just like the composition of the figure grouping in part because it was candid and shot with a long lens. Your thoughts, critiques and comments welcomed.)

Nothing like buddies! This makes me want to go out and find some! Congrats on your 4th place finish.

I really love it when people say they love to get critique. As much as it hurts sometimes to receive it, deep down you have to realise that they are mostly correct.

I belong to another Photo challenge competition site and it was through all the critique that I received from their that made me improve month by month year by year. If I ignored the constructive criticism I'll be still hopeless. Those people who don't like critique never grow. I do however limit how much I comment because I know people can get easily offended sometimes, so it's really refreshing to hear that people love to get critique. WTG!!

Good composition and focus but best of all the different expressions and the interaction.

    fc, Old Finn, Thanks.

Lo higgledy-piggledly! Love the expression!

AC Maybe a bit of space but I wanted this as tight as I could without crowding the frame. The heads occupy so little of the canvass as it is.

jomari I had to work on that sky!

Neat The action is in the Main entry! The point is that nothing is happening and the friends are just hanging together in the snow; maybe you have to experience it to understand it.

Mepo, I'll try denoise first and compare next time. The long lens was simply a reference to being able to grab the faces without looking like I was shooting up the nostrils considering I was a long ways downhill.

aoc I was struck by the interest created by the heads up and down, goggles up and down, googles where you can see eyes and where you see only the reflected hill.

elliott Thanks. I value your comments.

davemisunas Thanks for the scores!

a great shot well on the original theme
the group appears not to be too much aware of your interest.
the mix of group and the bonding of the two on the right balanced by the girl in pink kneeling and interacting with the guy with the white helmet
the white snow and light blue sky creates the final part of the sandwich.

I like the higgledy-piggledy grouping and the wonderful colours. It's a great shot of good friends hanging out and having fun.

Nice photo, I like the congregation and interaction. Needs some space at the top

Nice group capture. I like the plain sky background.

This is a very static image to me, nothing much is happening, where is the action?

Colourful and well taken. I don't find much expression or excitement here but that's understandable since they are just waiting. One suggestion is to denoise your photo before you do almost any other post processing since most processes will enhance the noise and make it harder to eliminate. I'm also don't understand why the use of a long lens enhances this. I do like the diagonal composition, that moved it into my tt.

Composition has a nice rhythm to it, with the heads at different levels and the variety of colors. Good job!
