Yay! You get to choose a theme!!!! I hope you can get the idea past those admin folk. They are an ornery bunch!

I spent quite a while trying to figure out what animal this was, or whether it was a mask of some kind.

Nice shot, definitely a "third eye". Might had cropped a little from the top to remove black space.

Just breathtaking. I must have stared at this for 10 minutes now already and still just can't get enough. Love it!

Meets the challenge brilliantly - nothing beats an eye for an engaging point of interest. The textures are great and I love the bright but limited palette. Top shot for me.

This is one incredible close-up shot! Superb detail, looks like some woodwork has suddenly come alive, almost scary, that eye. Unique subject, bravo!

Very nice. Love the colour, texture and composition. Just missing the focus in the top right. GL.

Ambaker, I tried cropping the photo to take out the black spot in the corner, but I needed the dark brow to show the contours of the face. Your idea of cloning it out would have worked well.

Interesting subject, some sort of a reptile? Definitely 1/3.

Very striking image! Some sort of lizard, I assume? (At first glance, I thought it was an elephant.) Like the similar colors in the eye and the scales, as well as the "terrain" of the skin. A good example of Rule of Thirds.

Thanks for your comments - as you may have guessed, this is part of a dinosaur exhibit at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa. I was really impressed with the detail in the model - it was so lifelike. The museum is planning a larger exhibit in June, so if you are in our fair city, we'd be happy to act as tour guides.

My favorite shot! Love the composition, lighting and texture. Is this some kind of a dinosaur model? it looks very real to me.

Not much post processing. Converted from RAW, enhancing colour warmth slightly . Since I used 1600 ISO, I used Topaz denoise, followed by a slight crop to centre the eye exactly on the intersection of the upper and left third lines. Lastly, Photo Pop in Topaz 5 to bring back detail, resized and de-jpeg'd.

Awesome lighting and detail. My only quibble and it is a small one, is the tiny dark space in the upper left corner. I would suggest cropping or cloning it out. Still, my #1 pick in the main category. Excellent work.
