    My #1. I was so impressed by the loving emotion you captured with such simple figures. The lighting was excellent too. And yes, you can get other emotions out of it if you want to, like most anything else. My second look made me notice the big guys feet were off the ground, so it made me think of martial arts training where size is sometimes a disadvantage :-}

    Congratulations Neil - really well composed and photographed. I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the darker side :)

    Congratulations on 2nd. This is so evocative of the parent/child bond. The posture of the child really says 'pick me up and cuddle me'.

    A superbly executed photograph - composition, lighting, etc. all are excellent, with good emotional content. Yet something falls short for me - I think it's that the figurines appear to be stand-ins for live models, making it seem something of a force-fit as still life and so not as strong a response to the Challenge as some others.

    Thank you all so much for the great comments :-) .

davev - Not mothers day here but I imagined it as mother and child as you saw it.

Lo - your comment made me laugh. When I set it up I was trying to make it look like the begining of a loving hug/embrace but after I finished the editing I looked at it again and saw it in a completely different way. I Suddenly saw Homer Simpson just about to throttle Bart again!!! I couldn't be bothered to start all over again so left it as it was :-) . The lighting was just roomlight with a window on each side of the room and the subjects much closer to the right window.

    As I'm viewing this on Mother's day, I'll guess that a mother/child love is being shown. In my TT

    Oddly enough, these wooden figures could be evoking emotions of parental love or of bullying, which seems to be so prevalent in our school systems these days. The use of a spotlight to bring attention to the figures is a nice touch. The detail and lighting overall is excellent.

    It's great how much emotion two wooden figures can convey. In my TT. I think the subjects could have been centered in the frame.

    Nicely lit still life which also meets the emotional aspect of this challenge. In my favourites.

    I'm glad you liked my photo :-)

Old Finn - so you would like more black on the left side making the figures more central?

    I would have cropped more room to the left side of the picture.

    Very cleverly done. It perfectly evokes a caring and loving emotion. High in my TT's.
