  #172 Arches
Entry 17 of 24

Arch of Victory       ©2016 jomari
Panasonic DMC-FZ70       17th place, 29 points
1/400s, f5.6, ISO 100, 51mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Convert to black and white with an infra red element to the conversion, increase detail, increase contrast.       Extra Info: This arch commemorates victory in WW1. The side in view is looking towards town. Viewed from the other side it is the gateway to an avenue of honour, with each tree having a plaque to honour a soldier who fought and fell. (It goes on for miles.)

    I'm sorry this didn't do better - I think it's a beautiful tribute.

A fine entry which narrowly missed my top ten.

edit: on 2nd thought, it made my top ten after all.

A solid majestic shot. Nicely on theme.

I think your choice to partially obscure the arch with trees makes a much better composition. I thin k the bare arch would be less interesting. However, I also think I'd like to see it in colour. What a wonderful way to honour those who served but did not return. Families must take comfort in finding an individual tree dedicated to each person. This entry has a strong emotional context - Well done and thanks for sharing this.

There is something absolutely pristine about this photograph. You have used a fine touch in bringing out the detail. Well done.

I am impressed; I would like to know more about this place.
As to the photo, monotone was the right choice. The hint of an arch of trees framing the arch was a nice vision.

It's well composed and the arch is beautiful, but it seems to get lost in this B&W rendition. There needs to be more contrast against the light sky.

Very lovely and well processed. On the composition I feel like the tree trunk on the right side being right up against the frame is too tight and there needs to be some space to the right of the trunk like you have on the left side.
