Path to Buddha       ©2016 ysal
Panasonic DMC-GX7       3rd place, 118 points
1/160s, f2, ISO 200, 40mm, Normal Program, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: Reduced highlights in the outdoor area, and brightened the indoor area by lifting shadows and brightening. Denoised, then sharpened. Removed small distracting shiny objects on the columns. Removed a small smudge on the floor. Adjusted minor lens distortion. Enhanced colors. Cropped and resized.       Extra Info: The Asian art display at a local museum. An absolute exposure nightmare! Very dark indoors with a large window to the Buddha statue on the sunny outside. Tried metering off various areas, but ended up metering on the outside, then brightening the indoor parts in PP.

Thanks everyone! I can't believe this finished so high. I went to the Norton Simon Museum near where I work looking for a subject. Although I've lived near this museum for over 40 years, I had never visited it, perhaps because the exterior is not very attractive. If any of you have ever watched the Rose Parade on New Year's Day, the parade starts in front of this museum, a drab brown tile building. It turned out to be a rather disappointing museum inside too, very limited exhibits and very boring architecture. I did manage to find this subject, however.

The lines lead to the window view. The dark interior helps in leading the eyes to the main object. My first choice.

Perfect! Everything works here to lead the eye to the Buddha. Great subject, composition, and lighting. My #1.

Well framed and lit, but lacking added punch; just not sure how you could add to this architecturally well designed hall.

Good choice in metering on the outside and bringing up the inside in PP. Gets my vote.

I like this. I sense the eye being led to the outdoor display which is the purpose of the exercise of course. The figurines on the walls make the journey more interesting. Kudos on the pp.

Great exposure - love the color and the contrast between the outdoor scene and the cave-like museum interior. Would suggest a tighter, more horizontal crop to put more emphasis on the buddha.
