  #176 Matching Colors
Entry 1 of 23

At the museum       ©2016 ysal
Panasonic DMC-GX7       1st place, 138 points
1/50s, f2.5, ISO 500, 28mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Cropped; cloned out distracting sign on the wall; adjusted lens distortion; brightened the man; denoised and sharpened; resized.       Extra Info: I was at the museum looking for anything with matching colors. I found this modern art intriguing so I started to photograph them and noticed the guard/docent standing by in matching B&W outfit. He kept walking out the door, probably thinking I didn't want him in my photo, so I couldn't get him in very good focus. I probably should have just asked him to stand for the photo.

Wow, I can't believe I won! Thank you!! Several people mentioned that black and white are not colors and this didn't qualify for the challenge. I actually thought about this before entering but I didn't have any other shots to enter. Besides, I always thought of black and white as "colors" since whenever I order clothing online, they show up as my color options :-)

Very well composed and executed. Tying in the uniform of the museum guard was a great move. My No 1.

Well composed. I think the guard/docent is sharp enough. My first choice.

Babysister, white is the presence of all colors, therefore I thought it can be considered a color.

I though this was the best photo in the competition but could not vote for it because black and white are not colours.

This one is on the verge of iconic, but just a little short. If you could somehow have got the geometry squared, maybe raised the doorframe....? But it works very well as it is.

Lucky you did manage to catch the attendant, his clothing is a good counterpoint to the artwork.

I think that cropping to square and omitting the guard might have made a stronger entry with the matching colours in the art hanging and the monoliths.

I like this combination a lot. It stands out as one of the least crowded compositions.

A well-spotted color match - black and white indeed are colors. I definitely would have asked him to stand nearer the painting so I could shoot without interference from those large rectilinear objects.

Great matching "colors" and interesting composition. I'm able to overlook the man being slightly out of focus, because it makes your claim, that this is not a posed shot, believable. High in my top ten.

I like the concept of B&W painting vs B&W clothing of the guard. The guard's gaze unfortunately leads the eye out of the frame. Also the two large black boxes detract from the focus on the painting and the guard.
