This was my first choice. I felt it was a remarkable tribute.

hey thanks for comments and votes.
admins could confirm i was procrastinating and got this in with seven minutes to spare. i agree with the critiques about cropping and cloning out other birds. i think if i had got this in earlier i would have seen how it looked and made a couple changes. that being said, i don't think it would have changed overall results in voting. some great shots ahead of (and behind) this one.

we'll miss alex and his contributions to this group.

I like the idea and the composition, and it is a good sunset with colours, cloud and the sea to add interest. The main subject bird is beautifully placed and in a great pose - though it is a shame that it is not razor sharp.
I'd have been tempted to clone out the bird on the right that is half out of the frame, as it is a little distracting.

But ultimately, as a tribute photo, the emotion conveyed is the most important, and you have achieved that really well.

Very nice! Would recommend cloning out the partial bird, however.

Like the composition and maybe removed the bird on the right of the image as it draws the eye a bit

    A beautiful tribute!

Perhaps, you should have removed the two less prominent birds.

Did you use the square crop to include as much sun reflection as possible? Just wondering...

Very nice colors. The bird adds interest. I think a landscape crop would be better with the horizon lower in the frame.
