Diana, Goddess of the Hunt       ©2016 ysal
Panasonic DMC-GX7       17th place, 41 points
1/1000s, f8, ISO 500, 28mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Cropped; adjusted exposure to emphasize the statue as silhouette; increased color saturation; denoised; sharpened; resized.       Extra Info: This has been a rather slow year for me in regards to photography. Work and some medical issues got in my way. This is a bronze statue of the Roman goddess Diana. It was taken at a local botanical garden/museum which has a wonderful art collection from around the world.

    Nice composition, framing and interest.

Somehow this one just excels for me. I think it is an excellent architectural shot.

Probably similar to shots taken by most visitors but this one is way ahead of average. Many would want more detail in the statue but I think your choice of silhouette works perfectly and makes it the centre of attraction. The patterned pool of light also brings this out of the ordinary. Very well done.

Lots of interesting elements and compositional opportunities here -- the skylight, the pattern of light on the floor, the statue, the garden, and the columns. This shot may try to include too many elements and lose impact as a result of the competition for attention. For example cropping out the skylight at the top and bringing the sides in to the outside edges of the near columns creates a more focused and stronger composition I think. Another idea to try would be shooting from a very low angle to silhouette more of the statue against the sky. Since this is a local site it would be interesting to try different angles and times of day. This is a good subject for the upcoming Framing challenge.

Nicely shot, though you should have saved it for the framing challenge. Like the projection of the cupola on the floor. Hope the medical issues are all sorted out for you.

Interesting image and composition that grabs my attention. I'm torn about liking the fact that parts of it are in "shadow", and wanting more details and colors of exactly those parts that might have been captured by HDR processing - more an issue of taste, rather than quality as this is a fine entry as is.

well done. i wish we had different categories for a best of challenge... architecture, people, landscapes, etc.
for me, the shadow on the floor is a major element i would want to take advantage of.
sounds like we are in similar situation. i've logged a lot of travel miles this year but mostly back and forth to a medical center on the other side of the state.
hope this coming year will be good for you.
