San Francisco Bay Bridge       ©2016 Edward
NIKON D810       5th place, 134 points
3s, f11, ISO 64, 40mm, Manual, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Open Shadows; lighten exposure; dodge select areas to emphasize highlights; apply unsharp mask.       Extra Info: To get to the location to take this shot (Yerba Buena Island) was probably one of the most gruelling hikes I've ever done, but I'm glad I did it. There is an amazing amount of detail in the buildings in the background; unfortunately, reducing the image size severely effects sharpness.

Congratulations on a great shot, and on teaming up with another Panachallenge member.

Like I said, it's no wonder people thought the Bay Bridge entries in both categories were by the same photographer. Dave Misunas and I are practically neighbors, and went on a photo excursion together to the site where these similar photos were taken. We did not know or discuss that we would entering our similar photos in this challenge (lucky we have different cameras!). Dave and I actually discovered each other through a previous Panachallenge contest when we recognized entries that could only be local to us.

Congrats Edward, and I do apologize for my assumption that these were taken by the same photographer. The fact that the 2 images were taken by 2 photographers at pretty close timing, and perspective explains the similarity. What got me was that even the star was in exactly the same area.

I thought this might be the winning image, I did not like DaveMisunas as much. The colour is just great here, and maybe his smaller dimensions hurt him some too.

Stunningly beautiful. I wish there was such a structure in my area so I could shoot something like this. Congrats on a well-done image and a high finish among some great photos.

I suppose you noticed DaveMisunas' entry in the main was similar to yours, so JohnComyn must have thought you submitted both entries. At least he voted for it anyway!

Sharpness looks good for me, good dof. Nice view and good composition. In my favorites.

No doubt this would look best presented large. Maybe you could provide a crop of the detail in outtakes.

And what do the rules say, John?

Very nice, love the colours! Just the bright area under the bridge I'm not liking. A little too similar to the image in the main, you should read the rules. You still get a vote from me on this one, because it's the better of the 2.

A very impressive shot, though I preferred the color and composition in your Main entry.

As you say, an amazing amount of detail in the buildings, but it also has more light than your Main entry and it should do well. In my TT.

Members are likely to be confused by almost identical shots - one in the Main category and one in the Open category, but they are from two different photographers. My friend and fellow Panachallenge photographer, Dave Misunas, and I were on the same photo excursion when we took these shots. We did not know we were going to post almost identical entries to this challenge!

Wonderful exposure, colors and detail. I've photographed this bridge from the Oakland side and it is very photogenic at night (not so much in the day time compared to the Golden Gate). In my TT
