Canon EOS REBEL T3i       11th place, 91 points
1/100s, f7.1, ISO 400, 203mm, Shutter Priority, Center Weighted Average, no flash

Post-Processing: Crop. Topaz adjust filter, simple pop.       Extra Info: I caught this entirely by chance. We arrived at our campsite at dusk and started to set up. I saw the sky changing over the trees so grabbed my camera and ran down the road to the beach (we'd never been there before). When we reached the beach this was my first (and best) shot. Later on, we set up camp in the dark - it was worth it!

Anthony - appreciate your comment. What I was trying to say was that on a well-calibrated monitor the people do stand out from the trees but not so much that they draw attention away from the scene. As for the dog, as soon as he figured out I was friendly he started thumping the dock with his tail :-) It's not a big deal; I was delighted to get so many comments.

All all honesty I am not into interested in the details of the people, just more a contrasted silhouette. The highlighting on their hair helps a bit but it is just not strong enough to remove the blending I spoke of. I had this image in and out of my favorites, but it was a tough call to make. Maybe the dog did like the sunset, he just wanted to share it with "you"... :)

Beautiful view. Did you try the flash to get those people and the dog more visible? The composition is good.

I appreciate all the comments. I did try bringing out more detail in the figures but that not only lessened the 3rd dimension but also took attention away from the sunset which was the focus of the photo. That's what the couple were looking at, that's what we all came to see :-) It's also probable that different monitors will give a different view to photos like this - I've seen this mentioned in previous challenges. On my calibrated monitor you can discern that the man's pants are beige and his jacket is blue. Very slight detail but it is there. Any more detail and you wreck the image (imo). I think when we see and image where we want to see more detail we might allow for the possible difference in calibration.
All that being said - I want to emphasise that I very much appreciate every comment. This site would die without them. Thank you all.
p.s. The one thing I wish you all could have seen was the look on the dog's face. He was looking at me and I could tell he was hoping for some pats. He had no interest in the sunset at all LOL

This is a sunset shot, but the personal element and dock add everything to it. You couldn't have planned this one any better than this turned out here.

Beautiful sky and reflections. The semi-silhouetted couple (and dog?) is kind of lost against the background of the far shore. It might have been better to bring up the shadows to give them more shape and definition.

An appealing scene, well composed and shot. I'd recommend a bit of fill light to bring out the figures better. (Almost didn't notice the dog.)

Love the colours in the clouds, and the reflections in the water.

OK they might be cliched but they are lovely and this one particularly so. A good catch!

nice shot. i had a good firey sunset to enter but it didn't have anything to compliment it like yours. the couple on the dock make this shot worth while. (glad i didn't enter mine).
well done.

this is very nice and well worth the delayed to the other chores
due to another programme my view of this was reduced but it also showed me that a crop of the image would make it more interesting and although this is a personal opinion.
the crop suggested is to cut the bottom dark areas to the line of the two peoples shoes. then crop the rh very tight against the couple on their right
it makes more of them as part of the memory

Really great sunset shot with beautiful reflection. The couple and their dog are bit lost in the shadows but they still add a nice atmosphere. In my TT

You captured the sky beautifully, I just wish the silhouettes were more prominent. To me they blend a bit too much with the trees, which break the focal interest there. Without the people in the scene it will be to much of a regular sunset. Maybe a higher or lower angle.
