Thank you all soooo much for all you warm congrats and more importantly your votes ;-) . Winning the Main with the added bonus of the Open too really made my day (probably my week and month too :-) . Thank you all again, Neil.

I have added details of how I took the photo in the outtakes thread for cookiejar if anyone would like a look.

Thanks to all of you for the lovely comments :-) .

jomari - it was cheap carbonated water which had a lot of fizzzzzz ;-) .

In soda? This is very effective and the colours pop against the black background as well as against each other. Well done. In my faves.

Can't get any better than this. Everything is right about this image -
even the title is right on the mark. Kudos!

Thank you both very much for the kind comments :-)

Old Finn - The ends of the pencils were placed in budget sparkling water (17p for 2L) and left for the bubbles to accumulate. This was one of the last photos I took by which time the water was a lot less fizzy.

I think the green one is my favourite too :-) . I suppose they are a bit like a fish out of water but in reverse ;-)

Well shot, with nice color and composition - especially like the bubble pattern on the green pencil. But it makes me wonder what colored pencils are doing in a fizzy liquid - a new alternative to swizzle sticks?

    I'm delighted you think so :-) .
The bubbles are sharp because they weren't moving and the camera was on a tripod.
I took a photo of the setup in case anyone was interested. I'll post it on the outtakes about 22 hours after the result is announced. Sorry, about the delay but due to work and time zones, that's about the earliest I can do it.

A stand-out Photograph. Ordinary and extraordinary . I'd like to know the technical details on how you set this up. I don't know how the bubbles can look so sharp at 1/4s?

What a beautiful shot, and a brilliant use of bubbles.

I guess the photo is only about half the depth of a pencil deep which is inevitable. I tried to give some feeling of depth by lighting it from above at quite and extreme angle plus somewhat from the side and not from in front.

Clever variation on the colored pencil theme. Looks, perhaps, just a little two dimensional, but a very attractive shot.

Thank you very much :-) .
Oh, do tell? Was I one of them? ;-) . I think you're underestimating. I'm sure there are quite a few members who could pull it off. It's just pencils in fizzy water after all :-)
