Luecistic White Hummingbird       ©2017 Edward
NIKON D810       4th place, 143 points
1/1250s, f8, ISO 500, 550mm, Manual, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Cropped; increased vibrancy.       Extra Info: Not an albino, but a normal Anna’s Hummingbird with a rare genetic condition that prevents it from depositing melatonin into its feather. Most Leucistic birds are only partially affected, so finding an all-white one like this is extremely rare. This one has appeared at the University of California Santa Cruz Arboretum over the past two years – and has become an international sensation.

Great capture ... this can't be easy and must take a lot of patience and preparation!

Excellent sharpness in the fast moving wings too. Well composed. In my favorites.

What an amazing capture. These little guys are really difficult to zero in on. Beautiful colour, detail and bokeh.

Nice capture of an interesting specimen. Cropping out the bottom flowers and much of the top leaves would improve composition and reduce distraction, IMO.

Nice capture, I was surprised to see how slow your speed was, and yet you were able to get the wings pretty sharp (not a lot of motion blur).

I can only image how difficult a shot like this is to obtain. Congrats on capturing the hummingbird while feeding. I appreciate the extra information as well.

I love the colours and shapes of your picture, but it is a shame that the focus plane looks to be a bit in front of where it needs to be - but I'm sure it is really hard to capture such a fast moving bird, and it is still a great picture.

Beautiful shot - I love the shallow dof and the way that renders the background. Interesting bird, thanks for the notes.

I've heard about this particular bird, and good for you to capture it! I just wish the bird's face was in focus.
