Many thanks to all who for your good wishes, votes and comments. It was worth standing in mud for an hour with wind and rain. Around dusk the wind dropped and the rain eased and allowed me to get this image. Other photos taken before and after and not worth looking at.
Anthony: The original photo is wider and that is the version I have hanging on my wall. For some reason I felt I had to do a crop at the left for this comp.
Cookiejar: The height of the tripod was critical as you noticed. I had to get high enough to get a space between the boat and the jetty without losing the horizon. Just luck that my tripod went to that height.

one of my favorites ... and among my favorite of any shot I've seen on this site. The water is just so still it creates such a serene feeling ... the lines of the boat and the dock as well as the reflections are composed perfectly in the shot and make it a winner.

Absolutely love the way the sea and sky blend so well, I've never seen the end of the day and fading light portrayed so well. The lively colours of the boat are in perfect contrast and help set the scene. Kudos.

This is a beautiful composition. It just works. The reflections introduce such a nice balance of detail and softness; the cloudy evening is a perfect backdrop to the pristine lines and simple colours of the boat.

Nice image. I would have preferred a slightly less panoramic crop. It looks a bit squished. Although I read this is was a cloudy day, maybe a slightly warmer tone, but just slightly... but that is probably just my preferences. In my favorites.

A-plus for composition here. Great perspective, vanishing point, as well as the nice subject and the stillness and reflectivity of the scene. Quite astonishing!

The height of your tripod is spot on here to give a feeling of being in the image while still allowing the horizon line to be seen.

Very nice image... grey muted background with some color in the boat (which looks European) looks good as dose using a wide frame.. in my TT
