Still Going       ©2017 andzwe
Panasonic DMC-GH4       4th place, 165 points
1/125s, f5.1, ISO 320, 110mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Cropping, convert to B&W and a bit of sharpening. That's about it.       Extra Info: A year that was defined by loss, both material and immaterial, but the bike trips with my neighbor Reza (from Iran) still continued. This is an example of that.

Congratulations on placing 4th in a really tough field. I think this photo spoke to a lot of people.

This was my #1. I thought it told a nice story.

Thanks all for your New Years wishes, comments and / or favs.

Our trips (also a lot of walking in the past) have become much less frequent, but we try to continue them at least once a week.

@mrsawyer: Thanks and nice you remember. No, that was just somebody passing by, who made that pic special, for a big part. But often it's indeed my neighbor in those "bike photo's". I sometimes jokingly say he probably has got the most photographed back on flickr (where I mostly post).

All the best to everybody in 2018 and success with whatever may cross your path

This reminded me of your Entry you titled "A Hard Rain." Was that your neighbor in the other photo, too? Good luck in 2018.

Congrats on your 4th place finish.

Love this shot - in my favs. I get the sense that I'd love to cycle down that road. Excellent use of monochrome too and not destroyed by oversharpening.

Beautiful shot, lovely in soft black and white. In my faves.

I like the black and white treatment. Pretty and touching; both the photograph and the story.

I love this shot. Love the composition, scenery, conversion to bnw looks great and the subject-background separation. To the top picks.

I hope the new year is much kinder to you, and that your rides with Reza continue to brighten your days. This is a lovely shot that takes us with you along the path.

It's a great Pic. Many details throughout the picture. Is one of my favorites.

Nicely balanced shot of a tranquil scene. I hope that rides in such pleasant surroundings offer some consolation for your difficulties.

Beautiful B&W shot. Good variation between black and white. Glad the bike trips helped you. In my favs.

    B&W artwork. Love it!

Eye is lead into scene nicely by curving road and overarching tries. Clear, singular subject in bike rider. Framing a bit loose and aspect ratio wide. Focus is soft and contrast is low.

Love this shot, probably my #1. It's dreamy hazy but you managed to bring out the rider. You probably could clone out the object in lower left. Conveys a sense of nostalgia and melancholy.

    Thanks; Thivi, forkcandles and elliott.

I'd added some editing info too, but somehow it got lost. Anyway: Converted it to B&W (in Gimp), adjusted shadows, did some sharpening and that was about it.

@Thivi: I think my photo's often express serenity (etc.), but there's mostly another side to them as well. Hopefully the photo can still be viewed objectively, apart from the extra info.

I like this shot very much. Before I read your 'extra info', your image showed me quietness, peace and serenity

love the extra info. the use of the larger space framing the cyclist is well done
having a second look, the gamma adjustment would make more of the cyclist and bring out the deatils in the trees

i know i've probably mentioned this many times here on panachallenge that what i look for are photos that will stand on their own outside of the challenge. all too often (with the themed challenges) more emphasis is on the theme than the content or presentation. (and i'm guilty of that all too often).
but anyway you look at this it is a great shot. i hope your coming year will be better than previous.
cheers.
