Celestial Sparkling "Diamond Ring"       ©2017 mrsawyer
Panasonic DMC-FZ50       9th place, 97 points
1/20s, f11, ISO 100, 420mm, Manual, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: Rotation 21 degrees. Then cloned bottom half and flipped it to replace original top half to get rid of blue spot from lens flare. Rotated back to original position. Cropped. Resized.       Extra Info: Just after totality of the Great USA Solar Eclipse of 2017. The so-called "diamond ring effect" happens as the corona is still visible (the ring) and the first peek of the sun "the sparkling diamond" appears after total darkness. I considered reducing the flair, but found the photo too dull for such a spectacular event. It brings me great pleasure to recall the whole experience!

Well, this was a rushed shot, because in the total darkness, I was searching for something and ran out of time as totality suddenly ended. I was about 20 seconds slower than I should have been, but at least I go it done.
It was such an exciting day.

Thanks for the votes ans comments.

Awesome pic of the eclipse. I just wonder how long you had to wait and how many pics you had to take, to get this shot.

I'm glad you did not reduce the flare. This is certainly spectacular.

This is a terrific photograph and much more interesting than the one in the open section.

Beautiful shot. I'm glad you have the flare, it adds a lot to the beauty. In my top 3.

Many people say the "diamond ring" is more dramatic than the total eclipse, and I must agree! Did you use some type of a filter to get the rainbow effect? Very nice.
