    Congrats, Dave.

I think the suggestions for cropping the top came from not being able to view the whole pic at once.

I think I had this at #2. This is wildlife photography at its best. I think the crop is perfect to give context to the image.

Thanks Lo, and thanks to all the others that commented and/or voter for the pic. We've been going to the Badlands for many years now, this is the first time I got a backlit shot like this.

I have to say I was a little surprised by the suggestions to crop the image.
I really like the different levels in background, and feel that the shot would lose a lot of it's impact with a tighter crop.

Anyway, Thanks again and congrats to everyone else that entered.

I found myself scrolling down to see the lamb and realized that a square crop may have been preferable. Beautifully captured at the right moment! In my top 3.

Nice picture, Good sharpness in the object and foreground, but maybe would be better if some part of the upper background would have been cropped off.

I love the backlight which lifts his camouflaged little self out of his surroundings.

I like this a lot but prefer it with the top of the frame cropped away. I'm guessing it is there to emphasise the terrain but I prefer a larger shot of the lamb. In my favs.

The monochromatic nature of this image is extremely effective as is the back lighting of the lamb. Great capture.

Beautiful back lighting and well caught. It gives me vertigo just looking at it. In my favs.

Impression: Beautiful light. Almost monotone color palette, but very natural. Simple composition and well-positioned subject. Well-exposed. Restrained post-processing. Very pleasant.

Nice capture. I'd prefer a tighter crop on the animal.

Are you sure that gut isn't a mountain goat? Fabulous photograph. I love the backlighting and the rock texture in the foreground. The subject stands out well due to your aperture choice.

Simply sublime. The little guy would normally have blended right into the rocks except you outlined him beautifully with the back light. Perfection in wildlife photography.

WoW! - What can I say? Except for me this the ultimate capture. Love how the lamb is captured by the light and the natural monochrome really works so well here - the colours, lights, focal point and textures are perfect :)
