Post-Processing: Crop, Topaz Studio O Ray macro lum (HDR type of filter) blended in darken mode.       Extra Info: Heritage weekend in my city. The steam train was a popular attraction, though we didn't take a ride.

    Well done. I think centring the train was the best thing to do, despite the "rules". Interesting shot, with the passengers, onlookers, . and the lovely detail.

    Remember, you can NEVER go wrong with a photo of a steam engine! I think in this case "centering" only adds to the composition.

    Actually very attractive head on :-) Perhaps with a closer crop. Excellent job of capturing the texture of the steel of the loco - perfect exposure.

    That's right -- unless centering the subject makes sense, such as in the case of a symmetrical composition. Here I think it has just made the composition feel unbalanced in visual weight.

    Yes, your subject screams for "center me in the pic!" Love those old trains, and that "round nose" stand out being in the center, well done :)
As a side note, I would have cloned out the man on the left, or cropped a bit more / less - yes, being chopped is another broken tule :) but i think here distracts more than he adds.
In my top ten anyway, nice job!

    Centering the largely-symmetrical engine is OK. The real problem is all the people, who over-balance the scene to the left.
