Impressionist delphiniums       ©2018 kerszkavet
Panasonic DMC-FZ150       14th place, 55 points
1/30s, f8, ISO 100, 122mm, Shutter Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: The original top of the picture sliced off the very topmost of the tree, so extended canvas and added in a small amount of sky and part of the tree.

Extra Info: A natural confetti producer opens their delphinium fields for a short time each year. Some parts are blocks of single colours, but this multi-coloured section appealed the most.

Vertically moving the camera (with a ND filter) gave an impressionist feel.

Thank you for your kind comments. Life has been busy but I am trying to get back here as much as I can. I thought this really was quite good so I am a little surprised it wasn't higher in the end.

This was my #1. An absolutely breathtaking image, especially when viewed on a large monitor. I wonder how many people actually take the time to see the entries on a real monitor. Because if they did, this would have finished much higher.

Good amount of blur to leave something to the imagination, but to still be able to know what is pictured.

Thanks everyone for your comments. it was a wonderful subject to find. I'll post a non-blurred shot in outtakes. Maybe i'll have to go back next summer...

Jade O - so glad to have you commenting again, your thoughts are always valued. I'll try some other crops as you suggest - I'd thought the pale blue sky was needed for context, and also to try and balance that mass of colour. NB the original shot had less sky in it - see 'processing info' - but that was by accident than design.

You've done a remarkable job of creating an impressionistic scene. Your timing with the ICM is right on.

Very impressionistic. This would have been great for a previous challenge on impressionistic images. I love the subtle colors. Well done - in my TT's.

Like the color and composition, but might like to have one stronger shape in the foreground.

Thought a lot about whether this would be in or out of my picks and the end it was out simply because I would have sliced the image just below the sky to make this a solid canvass of impressionist flowers, which I realize is just a personal preference. I can argue equally well for your presentation which orients the photo. But because my eye keeps going up to the sky instead of staying on the subject, for me it doesn't work. Otherwise very well done. (I played a bit and think my compromise would have been lowering the frame to cut the trees in half. That way you have a top "edge" and orientation but just enough to tell where this is, and leaving the flowers to overpower that sky so that all the attention stays on the flowers.)

I like this a lot. Out of all the camera movement shots, this is by far the most attractive. Your result is beautiful. Very high in my TT, maybe #1.
