      Extra Info: What am I?

Two exposures one stop apart were taken within a fraction of a second of exactly the same scene. These two slightly different exposures were combined to help show a somewhat fuller brightness range than would other wise been possible with my basic camera.

SteveBee - I agree, one stop isn't going to gain me masses but as I can only shoot Jpegs I'll take any extra I can get sometimes. Jpegs have a brightness range of only 256 steps from pure black to pure white, so if I can effectively increase that to say 300 steps by bracketing and combining the exposures and I have a subject that could benefit then what's to loose?

I just checked and it seems I 'spoke' an untruth! It was a two stop difference not one.

Interesting and intricate patterns. What surprised me was combining two exposures that were 1 stop apart. Given the sensor probably has a dynamic range of over 10 EVs, compositing two shots one stop apart isn't gaining much. I've never found it to make a noticeable difference compared to standard tone curve adjustment in post to recovery shadows or highlights.

Thank you all ever so much. Really glad you like it. I almost didn't enter the Main as I wasn't at all sure about it. :-)

I wish it was crystal LO! It only cost me £1.99

Please see the outtakes thread in the forum for the 'reveal'. Due to time differences and work, I won't be able to post there till about 21 hours after the result.

I have no idea what this is, so I hope you will enlighten us. The crystal pattern against the blue is stunning. In my faves.

Striking, but I have no idea what it is. Definitely says "blue", though.

Intriguing - soap baubles against mirrors - I really don't have a clue, other than this is right on theme and striking. Love the abstractness of this image. High in my favs.
