Here's a good link about the danger - the best part is where they show a stick get trapped at the end.

And here's one about the wier in the photo:

Most people are lured into a false sense of security because these structures are usually quite attractive. I used to think that but one bad experience with three scouts in a canoe left a permanent impression on me (no one was injured, thank goodness).

Of the three entries with the same title, this is the only one which shows water somewhat troubled, so it gets my vote.

Thanks very much both :-) .

aoc46 - I was quite pleased with how 'troubled' the water looked over the weir. It's not 'calm and tranquil' as it is before the weir. It's not 'panicked and angry' as it would be if it was going down a series of rapids, it's just "what the heck is this thing coming up?".... a bit 'troubled' ;-) .

Nice shot of the bridge, with the people adding interest and scale. The water doesn't seem very troubled, however.

This is the most troubled water of the 3 entries with the same theme. Nice pic too.

A very apt title indeed. Water weirs look so peaceful but they account for many deaths every year due to the deadly hydraulic flows that are created. Kayakers call them 'Killing Machines'. Good composition - In my tt. Thanks for the link - what an amazing, natural voice.

Well composed with a lovely touch of light on the spillway.
