Thank you both very much for the warm congrats and generous votes! :-) .

Lo - The train is at The Harry Potter Experience within the Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, near Watford England where the films were made.

Please have a read of this webpage which gives a concise history of the engine including a link to a video of the train in full flight through our green and pleasant land :-)

I never realised till just now that :-

"The Two Replicas in Universal Studios Orlando, part of the Hogwarts Express ride, are actually Funicular Rope pulled trains. Their wheels are fake" !!!

Congratulations Neil. This was my No 1. You've really done this old train justice with your beautiful photo. You said this is the original. Where is it located? I watched a series on coastal railways and I think the line it ran on still operates.

Congrats Neil: A magical shot - wizardly even ;-). My first pick first time through. They've done an amazing job of recreating the station. Your composition was spot on.

Thank you very much all :-)

The steam is real but the boiler isn't fired up. It's steam made by the special effects department.

It does look quite new with it's lovely paintjob jomari but it was made in 1937.

Nicely composed with all those lines leading back to the embarking passengers. The train is so shiny-new, if the passengers weren't there I'd maybe think this was a small model, instead of a small train. I like all the puffing steam.

Thanks very much. I agree and considered changing their school uniform to green or similar to make it stand out more, but left it as it was for authenticity.

Impressive shot of the engine, but the people boarding are kind of lost.

Thank you both ever so much. It was great seeing the engine and walking through the carriage that they filmed in. They only ever used this one apparently (that the children are walking into).

Thanks very much all :-) .

Lo - It was great to see the real Hogwarts Express (GWR 4900 Class 5972 Olton Hall) on my trip to Warner Bros. Studio. They withdrew the engine from sightseeing tours of Scotland when it almost had a 100mph collision with another train after it went through a red light! It is now safely on display at the studio for all to see and wander through. I was surprised to read that in it's previous life before its Harry Potter days, it was last based in the city I live in now :-).

Three full-size replicas of the locomotive as 5972 Hogwarts Castle are at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Universal Orlando Resort). Two as part of the Hogwarts Express train ride and the other is a static exhibit in the Hogsmeade area. There are also static models at the other Wizarding World of Harry Potter locations in Hollywood and Japan but the one you see in this photo and it's carriage are the real ones used in all the films.

What I wouldn't give to ride on the Hogwart's Express. One of these days.... Beautifully captured, with loads of detail and colour and a great angle.

Very handsome train. Good angle gives image depth and leads eye.

    Shinny and fun.
