Eggsplosion!       ©2020 A.N.Other
Fujifilm FinePix S100FS       1st place, 180 points
1s, f7.1, ISO 200, 235mm, Manual, Pattern, flash

Post-Processing: Cropped, burn, dodge, sharpen, clone tool, spot removal tool, levels.       Extra Info: The eggs were placed in a heavily modified cardboard box on the table in my pitch black living room. They were lit by one flash gun from above that was connected to a sound trigger, that was placed eggsactly the right distance away from the air pistol in order to freeze the action at eggsactly the right moment. The inside of the box was painted white to reflect the light from the flash around the eggs.

    Alternate caption - Eggsecution!
Or, "I told you I don't like eggs"
Great timing. I wonder how many eggs were injured in this project???

Thanks for your speggtacular comments. They really mean a lot to me :-)

Mepo - The blue is just two blue sheets of paper/card stuck to the back of the box.

The camera was on a tripod with cable release attached set to a 1 second exposure. When I had aimed the gun I asked my son to switch off the light making the room pitch dark. I then pressed the cable release with one hand and fired the gun with the other less than a second later. The bang from the gun activated the sound trigger which set off the flash which captured the moment of action at eggsactly the right time.

What made it even trickier was the fact that the eggs didn't break very much the first time I shot them, so I had to set them up again and shoot then a second time through the same holes as before. The second time they broke eggsellently :-)

What an egg-static photo! It's incredibly sharp four a second exposure. The result is terrific. How did you get such a great blue background? Love it!

It would be really eggsasperating to have to redo this shot. It's incredible. Kudos to you for envisaging the shot and for capturing it so well.

Wow - I don't want to think about how much tinkering was required to get that shot just right - but it was well worth it.

A good excuse to shoot them then ;-) . I'm delighted you like it so much. It's one of my personal favourites.

Outstanding shot. I have seen many variations and this is one of the better ones. I would never think of trying this, besides I do not like eggs.

Thank you very much both :-) .

Ysal - I went through a dozen eggs to get this shot, well actually 13 as I accidentally picked up a raw one too! The mess inside the box was spectacular!

I keep thinking how this would have looked with raw eggs. Eggs seem to be in low supply right now so I'd imagine you won't be doing this now! Amazing sharpness.

Perfectly technically, not easy to do, I have seen this sort of image many times before but have to admire anyone who can manage this sort of capture.

I'm delighted you both like it :-).

aoc46 - I think you would be OK. All the mess was contained inside the box. It just needs to be wiped out after a few attempts.

Quite spectacular - a good job of channeling Harold Edgerton. I don't think I could get away with doing this in my living room.

Thank you all for the kind comments :-) .

NEAT - You see it as purple!? I make it navy blue. I chose that as it is the complementary colour to the eggs.

Amazing shot, lots of hard work in this one, kudos to you. My only nitpick is the purple background, black is always best imho.

One of the joys of the mini challenge there is no theme so judging is on the “ What I like” or “What appeals to my sense of humour “
Every picture has a story some are disclosed and some not, this doesn’t matter as The Image has meaning to every entry

top ten and you caught the air pistol shell as well. well captured

Seen these shots attempted may times, and you've done a good job with freezing the action. Aesthetically not that great to look at.
