Snowy Owl       ©2014 johncomyn
NIKON D7000       17th place, 67 points
1/250s, f5.6, ISO 400, 450mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Crop
Curves for more contrast.
USM
Extra Info: I was very lucky to get this shot, the owl sat on a
electricity pole for about 2 hours. I got some shots
of him on the pole, but with a grey sky behind not
very interesting.

When he flew down onto a field I started my pursuit. I
could not get very close and as you can see he kept a
good eye on me. I got many shots, some in flight but
they turned out quite blurry, should of used a higher
iso.

This is the best I got with a 30% crop. I have printed and
makes a good 16x12 inch print.

Very underrated I think. Maybe a slightly tighter crop would have made the owl more impressive to other voters, but you had mine.

It's unusual to see an owl on the ground like this - well done to capture this photo.

What a lovely background! I can see why you liked this shot so much. The bird looking straight at the camera works very well.

Very nice portrait of the bird, contrasted against the warmer colors of the field.

I know how difficult it can be to get a good shot of owls, you did really well. I love the overall feel of the photo, and the motion in the blurred background.

    good shot of the owl.
I would have cropped around the brown area behind the owl the rest is just filler
hopefully the 16x12 is on a wall

Very striking against the brown background. Well worth the effort to capture this shot of such an incredibly beautiful bird.

Really an excellent capture with a composition you could not plan so it is even more amazing to see what you've achieved here. Technically, this is very well done.
