Playing in the afternoon       ©2015 bryanshoots
Panasonic DMC-LX7       10th place, 117 points
1/200s, f2.3, ISO 80, 90mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Convert to b/w, adjust exposure, cropped, and resized in Lightroom.       Extra Info: My favorite shot this year is this shot of kids playing outside our house. I love how the sun is in an angle where it forms long shadows and serves as a backlight. I much prefer the black and white because it emphasize light and shadows.

This is just a great shot - so much action - lovely play of light and shadows. Normally the tilt would bother me, but here it just seems to add to the exhuberance. In my faves.

I like the action and the light but find the angle disconcerting.

Great action shot. I like the jaunty angle and the halo effect on the subjects.

Brings back happy memories of being a child playing outside on a summer evening. My only suggestion would to be include less of the road in the foreground

    I can feel the joy!

Great feel of late afternoon, action, children at play. I like the b&w rendering and the tilt angle. A favorite.

I can sense their intensity and the fun. Good choice to tilt horizontal; think that works very well here. Little less foreground included would have been my preference.

Usually I'm put off by crooked horizons, but it works well here - along with the low angle, backlighting and bold shadows - to convey the energy of the childrens' play.

Haven't viewed all the images so far, but I can easily tell this is going to be my number one, as soon as I saw it, I loved it!

The lighting does definitely add to this image. A good capture of the action that only boys know in play.

Nice sense of action and interesting lighting.

I love the action, composition and lighting in this photo. The tilt must be deliberate but I find it a bit much.

yes this only works in black and white. there would have been colours fighting for prominence.
however IMHO feel that the foreground and the the top of the picture could have stood more cropping?

The off level adds a lot of impact to this shot. You've captured some great activity but the lighting brings this up to a whole new level. The extended foreground with the texture and shadows is perfect. Brilliant shot!

A wonderful candid, beautifully backlit with a wonderful natural vignette. The off angle adds dynamism and power. A really fine shot.
