Post-Processing: Crop, contrast, desaturate, exposure, resize & a bit of sharpening.       Extra Info: So, I was browsing my facebook feed and saw a post from Panachallenge. It caught my eye as I haven't seen a post from the Panachallenge fb page in ages. And I haven't joined a challenge for years or visited the site. The fb post was a reminder for the last day for taking photos for Best of 2015 challenge. I thought to myself but it's only June! How come they're already getting entries for "2015"? In short, I went to the Panachallenge page and lo and behold... On the right side of the page which shows the "Featured Entry" section, it was showing my entry from Best of 2010! I took it as a sign to field an entry and later found out that the current challenge is a "Best of 2015... SO FAR" challenge. :)

About my entry, I saw the ripples on the lake while I was shooting egrets at sunset. I thought the patterns would look nice as a background for the birds so I tried to frame it that way. :)

Thank you everyone. I am delighted to get a strong finish in a competitive field. :)

Special thanks as well to Mr. Sawyer & Laree, I saw your concern in the forums for folks here in the Philippines during the onslaught of Typhoon Haiyan last 2013. It's the start of the typhoon season again here but were hoping nothing would come as strong as that big one.

P.S. The other guy (walteristic) you got in touch with is my brother. :)

Regards,

Chester

Glad you saw my post on FB! Now how do I get the other folks to notice! I would have liked to have seen more detail of the bird.

Thank you everyone for commenting. I really appreciate it.

fc - thank you, I had the same observation during the voting, a crop at maybe 50-60% from the bottom all the way up that would make it look like a panorama could make it look stronger. I initially chose the 16:9 ratio as I have already cropped some significant areas of the frame so cropping some more didn't entered my mind. :) edit: I'm not good with taking photos for challenges but I'll try to enter in the future from hereon. The Pastels challenge already got me stumped. :p

rd52 - thank you, I agree with fc's crop though to make it a panorama instead of zooming in on the bird. As I intended this photo more of a scenic shot (bird plus ripples) rather than a bird photo only. And yes, I think I mistook this for an egret, it seems more of a heron after searching about it. :)

aoc46 - thank you, I agree that the stick could get annoying. I also respect your comment about the centered composition. My thoughts about the photo though is that I see the heron and the lump of plants as one unit, so I didn't considered it as a centered composition. :)

Jade - thank you for the honourable mention. :)

Mepo - thank you for welcoming me back! I see your point with regards to levels and shadows and could revisit it as an alternative post processing. But I processed it this way (less contrasty) so that it is more zen like with the ripples. :)

dk, Joanna & Egesippo - I know the photo is not perfect but I thank you for seeing the beauty in it. :)

I like the form of waves on the top of your photo. Simply composition but effective.

Wow that's along break. Nice to have you back. You might not get as many commnets as most srart at the op and work down. I do it in reverse to try and balance things.

I think this shot needs the levels or shadows adjustment. The birs and the weeds are too dull. It's a shame becaue it's a lovley shot (and the title is right on).

Honourable mention. Just shy of my top 10.

Like the wave patterns, but overall the composition doesn't work for me - bird is too central. Also, the stick just in front of the bird is disruptive and should be cloned out.

A great and appealing shot. Certainly would hang it on the wall.

I like the shot, and your pp, but I think I'd have liked to have seen it cropped a little tighter to the bird. Making the egret, heron a little more prominent.

gentle elegance, and the monochrome promotes the feeling

note to admins ................ facebook with some past entries
like the shot here and I hpe you will hang around for some more entries
i think looking at it on several screen that a panorama cut with top being the straight lines
