Pastel Abstract #1       ©2015 RobertLavker
Panasonic DMC-GX7       16th place, 72 points
1/13s, ?, ISO 125, ?, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Adjusted levels, shadows and highlights; crop, unsharp mask       Extra Info: One of the best ways to see pastel colors is via interference of light reflecting off the front and back surfaces of a thin soap film. Depending on the thickness of the film, different colors emerge.

Surface of a soap film was taken with a Panny DMC GX-7 mounted on a Minolta Bellows II with a Rokkor X 100mm f/4 macro lens. The entire camera/bellows system was mounted on a tripod.

The camera model and the explanation suggest this was made by a cowboy :-) Since it's an abstract I would have made this a horizontal shot just so it would be viewed fully and in a larger size. Besides being attractive, this is very intriguing and gives sway to many questions. How do you light it off the front and back surfaces? Is the graininess part of the result or is that photographic? Do you put a drop of soap in the water or do you agitate it in some way? Love it - in my top picks.

The things we learn on Panachallenge. What an ingenious way to create this beautiful abstract. Well done. TT for sure.

Although some of the colors are a bit bold for pastels, I liked this one enough to make it a favorite. Very creative!

Creative concept, striking design and color, though much of the color seems to me a bit strong for pastel.

Interesting process to capture the image, but to me, these appear a bit "loud" and oversaturated to be what I would consider pastel.

With all that effort & colors, have to say "wow" right on. ~ Amberbug

Interesting abstract. The colors strike me as much more intense and saturated than pastels would be. The splotchiness of the colors tends to occur when an image is oversaturated.
