Congrats on 3rd place. I'm guessing your parents lights were spooky because you had to sneak beer or something past them LOL

I think a closer crop to remove some of the top and right side would have made this more of a pastel scene. Try it and see what you think. May make my favs anyway!

Thank you all for the great comments :-)

Mepo - No I hadn't. But looking at it now, if I had rotated the photo and turned the lamp upside down before photographing it, it would look very much like my parents old wall lights in their hall/landing (without the colours)...spooky!

What a beautiful lantern. You've done a great job of capturing the light and the reflection.

What a beautiful piece. I love the way the light projects the coloured pattern onto the supporting surface.

Casting a very attractive image. On theme and well composed. Did you think of flipping it vertically?

Well done and certainly shows pastels. Nicely exposed - good job.

Thank you so much all for your kind comments.

eagle1 and drivingback - You are both so right. I just tried what you said and much preferred it though it isn't so obvious what we are seeing. That will teach me for rushing in an entry so late and not experimenting with different crops.

aoc46 - The 'washed out' area below the bowl is like that as it was brighter due to being so close to the lights. I guess if I had a DSLR this effect would have been reduced with the increased exposure latitude.

I like this a lot. The pastel colors are super and the patterns are amazing! I was thinking of cropping out from the lid of the vase/jar to the top of the frame and this can become a very strong abstract. Still this is very well done!

Nice composition; like the color in the bowl. Area below the bowl seems a little washed-out, but that could be just its natural color. ("Solar-powered lamp"? There used to be a joke about solar-powered flashlights, but I guess they actually have such things now.)

One of the few entries that IMO really meets the theme of what "pastel" color means. I think you could have actually cropped of the top 30% and made a more powerful "pastel" statement.

Great color, lighting and composition. A favorite.

nicely composed. Perhaps inc DOF and capture front edge of image in focus
