  #161 Vanishing Point
Entry 10 of 39

Untitled       ©2015 Jade O.
Lge Nexus 5       10th place, 96 points
1/5586s, f2.4, ISO 100, ?, Normal Program, Center Weighted Average, no flash

Post-Processing: Nine image grid stitch (the structure itself is not linearly symmetrical or conventional). Some trimming to create the clean edge.       Extra Info: Trying for a more unconventional presentation inspired by some contemporary paintings where the artist deliberately avoids filling the entire canvas. Be interested to know if you think it detracts or adds (does it compliment the subject or is it a distraction?).

See outtakes for a more conventional version.

Thought this would do better, had you at 5.

Thanks for your votes and comments. Nice to squeak one in especially when it is a little off beat!

I didn't think non-regular photos would go over well, but I like it! In my favs!

the shapes on the edges do draw the eye through the picture so yes i like it
the bottom crop shuld have removed the flat on fence and white object below

Well maybe I will post a more conventional view in outtakes. Appreciate all the feedback! Thanks!

I think that the treatment might be interesting on a much simpler photo. Here it just seems to compete with an already busy visual. Nice to see the experimentation though.

This image is so strong that it does not need extra manipulations. IMHO the different framing takes away from the impact as it competes with the eye.

Yes the presentation does add for me, I think if you cropped to a conventional image it would be quite boring. To me this does say vanishing point, but not sure if I grasp the concept yet.

Like the idea and odd shape you created. Definitely disappearing in to the image.

Interesting! I think the outer frame adds because the curves go well with the arched window frames. Also the curves of the frame help lead the eye towards the vanishing point.

    I hate closer inspections... : )

An eye-catching picture, but closer inspection shows the stitching to be too difficult to align. I'd like to see one shot of the same bridge in the outtakes.

The shape of this one attracted my attention immediately in the thumbnails. I find the alternative presentation interesting and given the way you have constructed this I think you would have lost a great deal if you had cropped it to a conventional shape.
With all the architectural elements in this structure the concept of vanishing point is conveyed very well. I like the golden quality of the light and the tease of a partially discernible view.

The photo is well taken in fact very graphic with the lines and repetition. Not too sure though about the presentation. Squeezed into my faves. Good luck.

The white space seems without purpose. Each place where a point or curve touches the edge of the frame pulls the eye strongly. I find that the vanishing point concept becomes very secondary with most of my attention redirected to the edges. So, yes it is very distracting.

I love unconventional, and I love what you've done here. Bravo!
