Sparks on the surface       ©2015 Mepo
Panasonic DMC-FZ200       21st place, 31 points
1/40s, f2.8, ISO 100, 25mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: SOOC other than cloning a couple of defects.       Extra Info: This is a new type of firework (for me) called Dragon Eggs. They are a small plastic ball about 2.5cm dia (1"). When you light them they spin like crazy and emit a shower of sparks and exploding stars. These were about 64" (1.6m) from the camera. Shot at 40 fps.

OK - I did a bit of research and found this for you:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz200/6

Partial quote:
There are a whopping six different burst modes on the DMC-FZ200. Full resolution burst modes include 2 and 5.5 frames/second (with continuous AF) or 12 frames/sec with the focus and exposure locked on the first shot. If you want to go even faster, there are 40 and 60 fps options, though the resolution is lowered to 2.5 and 5 Megapixel, respectively. There's also a flash burst mode, which takes five flash photos in a row at around 1.6 frames/second, albeit at 3 Megapixel.

Maybe you could tell me why you did not accept my first explanation.

It's 40 frame per second mode.

You seem to be having a problem with my explanations. I don't know how else to explain it. Maybe you could drop in to a photo store and take a look at one. As I said earlier it can also give you 60 fps. It's an amazing function as I said. Take a look - maybe you will buy one :-)

Shot at 40 fps??? What mode is this on the FZ200?

Elyod: Too late. I've already been raided by the Security Service. Nice guys though - they even found the sock I lost in the washing machine six years ago.

Mepo, Let's have no more talk of sending bombs in the mail to the UK.

fc: That works well with fireworks in the sky and I love the effect. These were only 1.6 metres away and if you don't have a tripod you get a blurry image. I'll send you some samples to try in the mail if you want - they look like tiny bombs :-)

    Thanks for the comments everyone.
Patty - happy to overcome your dislike, they were lots of fun. Not too loud and right in your own backyard.
aoc - I appreciate your point but my whole focus was to try and capture multiple explosions which I thought would better capture the sounds and lights of a fireworks display. The ones I got with a single explosion were kinda boring.

Some intriguing patterns here, but the two bright flashes compete for attention. Consider concentrating on just one.on one

Never seen these before. I thought it was a sky display.

Good capture and fits with the theme and with the time of year :-)

Bernie: No video. The camera simply tales 40 separate single shots. It then takes a couple of seconds to record them all onto the SD card. It can also take 60 fps which is amazing in such a relatively inexpensive camera.

I detest fireworks but have to admire this shot. Well done.

Looks exciting! Was this a still derived from a video? Just wondering, since it was shot at 40 fps.
