I showed all of your comments to my Mom - she was really pleased that her hands have become famous at 87!

I agree with you. I find few things as expressive as an elderly woman's hands; they tell a story with a true and personal history. Tell your mother her hands are beautiful, and have a deeper beauty than those of a young woman's.

It's always good to see someone practicing a useful skill. Nice lighting colour and composition.

Like the image. It is interesting how you can see intensity of concentration through the hands.

Thanks for your comments - Having someone else's perspective makes you look at your own photo in a different way, and it's a great learning experience.

The photo was taken in the early evening, and I did ignore the overhead lighting to take the shot. I tried to lighten the photo a bit at one point, but it seemed to lose its intimacy, so I decided to leave it as is. I purposely focused on the hands because my Mom feels they are old and not very pretty. I think they are beautiful in their creativity.

Made this photo one of my favorites, like how photo was cropped to just shows detail of the hands , probably would have taken away from it if showed more. Master at work doing her favorite hobby.

I like the framing and the lighting, but as much as I like quilts I find the subject a little static and lighting aside, unequal to the dramatic lighting.

    The idea fits well...
Only two thigs:the red channel is too strong and the hands
are too in focus for me...
But no problem!

I love the mood of this image. The light is great. But surely she has better light to work in than just that of the sewing machine! I know, creative license. :-)
