Old Briefcase Lock       ©2009 Maike13
Panasonic DMC-LX1       18th place, 41 points
1/5s, f4.9, ISO 80, 112mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Cropped, Curves, Downsized, Sharpened       Extra Info: An ancient briefcase I seldom use as everything's on computer now. Shot this in the rather low lighting in my office. Tried flash but it caused too much reflection, so did without.

I'm surprised you didn't score higher. I thought you captured the old brass lock beautifully.

Maike13 I'm in transit logging in on borrowed equipment but I agree with you. I wish I had much more critical commentary; a lot of people don't vote for any given entry but we all lose when the voter does not bother to comment on why.

Thanks very much for all the comments. Nice to know my old briefcase is still good for something.

Jade, I'd like to thank you most. People at Panachallenge are much too nice and tend to comment only on the shots they like, and say nice things. While that is very pleasant, I think we learn more from criticism than from praise, so thank you for commenting on my shot, even though you didn't like it much.

Lo, yes, fear of the boss coming in caused some extra camera shake, LOL

The materials and shapes make this for me. I can see how flash would have hardened the lighting and spoiled the subtle atmosphere. My top three.

Considering the limitations while trying to take the shot (low light, no flash, boss liable to come in at any moment) I think you did a great job in capturing this lovely brass lock.

Fits the challenge. Well captured and composed.

So true - briefcases were such an important part of our attire. Lovely representation of the things I used to love about them - the leather and the brass show up very well. Hang on to it - you may need it to carry a part of computer in for service :-)

I think you've made this an interesting image. It is something we see everyday, although this is obviously an old style. I like the textures and the crescent moon shape around the keyhole. It is interesting for me to look at.

This is well taken but I really don't like the subject much at all and I find the composition really does not work for me.
