#73 Single light in the night
Entry 15 of 21

Rabbit's house       ©2010 Mepo
Panasonic DMC-FZ30       14th place, 27 points
1s, f3.2, ISO 200, 50mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Rotated 4 deg to correct level; cropped and then cloned margins; corrected colour; adjusted background brightness; Unsharp mask; resize entry.       Extra Info: Lit by a single streetlight. This play structure is isolated in a large park - kind of a spooky place at night. Only a rabbit spends any time here till next spring when the kids will return and the trees will no longer be dark and menacing.

Jade - That's your best one yet - very funny. RISLMAO (Rolling in the snow . . . )

p.s. Being of the male gender it took a second for the penny to drop. My wife is gonna love this one :-)

LaRee - Not lame at all. I took another shot a few minutes earlier of some picnic tables in the snow that was (I think) better photographically but I just loved the same things you saw and went with this one even knowing it was not my best shot. I have never used noise reduction software and am happy that Jade has suggested a program.

I am sure this sounds lame, but this is a pretty image. I like the colors and the footprints leading up to the play structure. I might have tried a bit of noise reduction in post processing, at least selectively on the blue slide.

Jade, Elliot. Thank you both for commenting, your suggestions are appreciated. Not that it's any excuse but I was over my boots in snow; only one leg of the tripod would hold and I had to steady it against a metal fence to get this shot; stabbing at the timer button (to avoid camera shake) with my frozen pinky that was not pink anymore and had no feeling left whatsoever. LOL

nice use of single light. and from the shadows, you can see it was a single light. i struggle with a lot of night shots. the blotchy blues in the slides might have appeared through some of your p.p. and i might have cropped a bit more off the top to make the area above the roof similar in size to the foreground. still in my favs. good luck. el

I so much like the footprints in the snow but think there is a lot of noise here too (in the blue slide for example). A program like Noiseware (free download) might give this image a more pleasing gloss. I also find the subject playground too centered and think the addition of a little negative space to either the left or the right could enhance the feel of the isolated playground awaiting spring.
