Congratulations Lo! Beautiful colors. The branches seem to grab around the light source. I'm sorry that I haven't seen this in the first walkthrough.

Wow, two top finishes, 1st and 5th, same as the winner in this category! Great effort!

Great idea for a future shot Jade - I took this the same night as I took the tree in the park - there was an odd cast to the colour of the sky that was heightened by the yellow colour of the lamp. It would have been much nicer with a bluer tint. I did use a tripod to stabilize the camera, but had some trouble resizing and using usm to get the best effect. Moving to a newer Windows version which will allow me to try some of the re-sizing tools available.

Thanks LaRee - I wish I had taken the other photo of the branches - it's beautiful and in my TF.

Your light looks much better in this image, but the tree branches look better in the other. I like the kind of circular pattern the leaves make around the light.

This is a wonderful opportunity which I feel has not been well exploited. First let me say I like the tree branches curve effect around the light and the positioning of the light at the intersection of the bottom third right third line. Double rule of thirds applied well to good compositional effect. The lighting is also very effective. But despite the play of light and shadow in each ice covered twig, the sense is that the branches are out of focus (which may not be the case at all). And the yellow brown cast seems an artifact of the unnatural street lighting. This is one where I feel an a halogen flashlight with a single bulb appropriately placed on or off image could have brought out a cold blu cast and an abundance in "starlight" reflections in the twigs. To get that effect you would have had to shoot the branches in more of a macro positioning and played with the positioning of the light, and there may have been no accessible ice covered branches to do that, but that is the shot I would have wanted to see.
