Thanks for the explanation, Jade - I should have known it would be much more intricate than I would imagine. I thought you might have taken the child's photo looking through the open door, then taken one of the open microwave and put the two together. Nice to know how it really happened. - Congratulations on pulling it all together so beautifully.

Congratulations, Jade! I didn't realize that the picture was faked. Sometimes the magician shouldn't tell how the rabbit dissappears :-)

Well done!

Thank-you Michael. I appreciate every comment especially since they can be both entertaining and informative. I try to comment on every entry honestly (but still working on being as graceful as raf, Franz and some others - you included!). I'd hoped the What's cooking? title had a double meaning with the child wondering how the light was heating things up hence the attention to the light not the food. I guess it wasn't so obvious as I'd hoped!

Congratulations Jade. I did not have a chance to enter many comments due to time restraints but in view of your efforts to comment on all entries (appreciated) I wanted to add my 2 cents worth to yours along with my congratulations. I have this aversion to my head being placed in your microwave LOL but I must compliment you on your beautiful model - she has very expressive eyes, even if they are not looking at the cookies!

Thanks, LaRee. Yup, those are oatmeal cookies (a girlfriend thought they were round chicken fingers!) and no I don't generally warm them up in the microwave! But I needed something discrete and flat enough not to interfere with the door window and I wanted an odd number grouping since I thought that'd look better on a round plate. (See my answer to Lo for the how to.)

raf. Good eye! You are right about the metal plate being at the back with the light in front (in my micro at least), placed that way I figure to light the front of the food you are looking at (and another reason to shoot it this way). Coincidentally, the shadow in the top right of the door is the shadow produced when the door was open for the door shot (note the straight edge of the shadow) which nicely matched the dark corner of the back -errr front - of the microwave perhaps adding to the seemless effect - a small element but they all contribute when "constructing" an otherwise impossible image. (And if you really want to play detective, that shadow should not be a straight edge, and the two shadows on the left edge of the door frame are the shadows produced by ambient window light shadowing the two door catches which protrude from the front the door front when the door is open but should not be there, of course, when the door is closed. And even more noticeable, the door in perspective does not quite fit the back -uh, front- of the microwave; if you look around the edges you will see it is slightly off level or more probably, the rectangle at the back of the micro box is not a parallelogram (a rectangle with two pairs of parallel sides), due to perspective issues from shooting the microwave slightly off centre.) Now don't go change your vote!

Hey Jade, had not looked at the comments, just seemed that was the only option. You could not have taken the back off without doing something about the lights. When I looked closely the metal plate indicates that you shot from an open door. The plates have always been at the back of every microwave I have ever seen.

So very cool! I need to know how the heck you pulled this one off. You must have a large microwave. Very well done image. Even though I know cookies don't go in a microwave and look like these. ;-)

Una, ist das ein schwörenwort?! See my answer to Lo, below ;-).

How the hell did you do that? Astonishing! In my TF.

Thanks, Alberto! The first place means a lot to me coming from you! I tried adjusting the white but it took a lot of warmth out of the image. I'd love to see what you could do with it though - I'm eager to learn since you do colour so well -maybe you could post how you would fix it in Forum after the Challenge?

I think It's a great idea for the subject!
...My first place...
...A little bit of P/P (colors and lights) could help and make it more

Billy, good guess, yes it's me! (the photo not the girl). My answer to Lo spells out the how to.

Top marks for your creativity!! :-)
At first sight, I was puzzled... heck!!! did he/she let his/her camera inside the microwave RUNNING?? boooom!!!! :-D :-D then, I realised in fact this is shot from the outside, and you wonderfully added a second pic of the girl to the rear of the oven to look like it's the front... brilliant!!
Will be high in my TT for sure and I'm sure will finish high, well done!!!
P.S. can't resist, can't resist, I have to bet :-D mmmm... Jade, maybe? is this one of your wonderful multipic creations? :-)

Well yes, raf, but I wonder what you would have said if you weren't able as admin to read my comment first - on second thought maybe you just deduced correctly how this was done - very good! (Really, I guess to get that perspective you really would have to take the back off or have a revolutionary really really wide distortion free lens!)

For a moment I thought someone had taken the back off a microwave in the search for panachallenge glory. A terrific PP effort to put together a couple of separate shots. Even looking closely I cannot see the seams.

As a shot it has a lovely sense of anticipation.

    Thanks, Hope.

Lo. Really four steps here. 1. Open microwave and take photo of inside. 2. Take photo of door. 3. Take photo of child. 4. Using GIMP, combine by cropping child photo to fit window then overlay on door, making layer transparent to provide screen effect, then crop door to fit over back of microwave interior photo. The child image is actually in front of the door window.

Well done - This is a beautiful portrait of a lovely child taken in a very creative way. I think I know how you did it, but would love to hear how you arrived at this beautiful result.

She makes this photo! :) Super cute, and great thinking on your part.
