The young lady is not a relative of mine, this was one of over 600 shots I took of the event

Many congrats Acetone, a great result for a great image!! I too like a lot the fact that she looks to the camera, that's a nice interesting bonus on a brilliant pic :-)
P.S. can I play a little guessing? is she a relative of you? I think I can find some "family-look" between she and your mugshot...
... please don't pay much attention to this, I'm very bad on guessing this kind of things LOL :-)

Nice finish, fine photo! I like the eyes precisely because it is so unconventional to see them studying the viewer in a candid athletic action shot. Remarkable for that alone, the technical merits of this shot make it well deserving of a high ranking.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I was not sure about her looking into the lens, but I liked the idea of some eye contact.

Very nice action shot - great composition, that low angle works perfectly here. Also great shallow DOF and colours. My #3, great pic, well done!!

Perfect composition and focus. I'm not sure this is fun but I'll take your word for it :-) In my tt

Excellent use of depth of field to single out the subject without excluding her from the rest of the field of racers.

My Fav: superb IQ and subject looking into lens brings me into the shot.

Technically, you couldn't do better with sharp subject, well balanced lighting, fine primary colours, and shallow depth of field. You've even done well to avoid the tree growing out of head shot in the middle of a wooded area! At first I was bothered by the body positioning of the runner, she looks oddly non-fluid and awkward (though I recognize both the cross country gait and the youth are factors here), and especially by the fact the runner is looking directly at the lens. This is unconventional in sports photography and makes me feel very self-conscious. As a result on the technical and compositional merits, this is easily in the top five for me and a contender for No. 1
