Extra Info:
The safety match was invented in 1844 by the Swede Gustaf Erik Pasch. Matches ignite due to the extreme reactivity of phosphorus on the strike palate with the potassium chlorate in the match head

The third beautiful match pic, maybe not so sharp or with lovely smoke, but here I like the hint of "human element" added by the fingers, and the composition is also very nice... TT, well done!

Franz - My fascination with fire and explosives has carried to my two sons. I'm not sure if this is good or bad but we have lots of fun doing experiments. At least they have never looked at these things as 'forbidden fruit' so never had to hide their activities from me when they were young ( I have scars to prove it ) LOL. Thanks for commenting.
Amberbug - Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you noticed the detail - it took many shots to get it - most were blown or way too dark. What I did was set the focus, aperture and speed manually and then strike the match on the box. I stopped just past the end of the box and held it there. I used a wood block to support the wrist of the hand holding the match. After a short while I found the best exposure settings, and the (approximate) best time to press the shutter release.

Nice idea, great detail on the lighted match, in my top 5.

A wonderful idea for the theme - and a fantastic motif regardless of the theme.
The sudden change of potassium chlorate's aggregate state is a great example for science fact - as this challenge proofs! ;-)
Here in my area there are only safety matches with sulfur. But they work too! :-D

Jade: Thanks for the comment. This took a forest of matchsticks and several burned fingers. It is amazing to see where the flame goes when caught by the camera - I had no idea. Happy you agree with the framing.

I'm very impressed that you captured the "waves" of flame without blowing highlights. Nicely framed as well. (I did not interpret the Challenge to permit chemical reactions but only Change of State reactions but this still qualifies for me as a solid to gas change of state shot.) [Edit: after reading the forum I'll take any Science Fact.]
