Disconnected backhoe buckets       ©2010 Lo
Panasonic DMC-ZS3       10th place, 42 points
1/320s, f4.5, ISO 80, 147mm, Landscape, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: cropped, enhanced colour, sharpened a bit, then decided to have fun with "glowing edges", resized for entry.       Extra Info: This pile of buckets was in a yard behind the rental area, waiting to be attached to a working backhoe. No chance of anyone walking away with one - the largest was about 1.5 M high.

Many congrats on your TT Lo! certainly a really eye-catching image... keep on taking risks, you did this one beautifully :-)

I'm heartened by my first foray into onknown territory. Jade and forkcandles - thanks for the suggestions - I hope to gain more experience as I go along - so this is really helpful. Like so many experiments, Jade, that silver effect just happened. - whether I can replicate it is another story! :)

This has such impact and I applaud your taking the risk with PP (and for the fact you saw something that PP could truly bring alive - so many others miss that!) This is well deserving of a TT for the keen eye in composition and the possibilities for some dramatic interpretations.

I keep looking at the thumbnail and how it appears. If you could replicate that surreal lit by moonlight look, I'd be a fan of your work forever!

Nice idea for the theme :-) I must confess I'm not a big fan of such heavy "filtering" effects, but here they have created nice colour shapes. Well done!

Congratulations on an excellent interpretation and in having the courage to enter a photo that is totally different.

they just nick the backhoe. lovely use of 'glowing edges' one of my favorite ways to add something to a plain subject. possible more 'transparency' to bring the colour out of the buckets.

Thanks, Jade - I had the same problem - I liked the way the buckets were tumbled together, but they seemed to lack something. I had a lot of fun trying different finishes, and settled on this one.

O.k. I really don't like this special effect -- o.k. I really don't like the fact that I like this special effect!

I keep feeling that I'm falling for the photographic equivalent of a Bullfighter on Black Velvet painting, but there IS something about the composition and execution on this one that really draws me in. That thumbnail looks outstanding! I wonder what this would look like if it were overlaid with a B&W layer with a Gaussian blur then adjusted in opacity to bring out the colour but in a less harsh manner. I'd love to play with this one for a while. In my top 5!
