Cropped top. Cleaned up background. Increased contrast and lightened shadow. Unsharp slightly.
Extra Info:
This thing kicks like a mule and blows clay birds into dust.

A belated thank you for all your comments. Holidays seem to make paperwork breed like rabbits :-)
Raf: I agree - the light fixture was the only large white surface I had available. All done in a rush I'm afraid.
Alby : I have to understand what you consider strange. Thanks.
Bill: Understand what you mean. Rushed around looking for any kind of Carved duck decoy - I guess I'm out of season. I only use it for skeet and I was all out of them too.
Franz: Thank you. It is quite safe - note that the hammers are forward.
FC: Yes indeed. If you are smart you will not fire them together LOL. Thanks for the comment.
Broph: Thanks for the comment. Problem with the f11 is that it would bring the background into sharper focus - see note to Raf. I really must get some plain white background!
Amberbug: Much appreciated.
Billy: Muchas gracias mi amigo

Another original take on theme, I like the composition, the beautiful lighting and the superb sharpness on this pic. In my top five for sure, well done!!

Nice shot with an unusual subject, good idea, great exposure & detail, in my top picks

Very dramatic indeed.
Meaning:
There is still life in those this weapon might be used upon or that this weapon will be used to still life.
I would have like a higher F stop to bring the shells into focus as well to complete the starkness of the shot.

This gun appears to have the facility of both barrels. excellent detail and the addition of the red in the cartridges give a rounded shape. good lighting with reflections of the trigger in the bottom of the guard. I am assuming its American or Canada as the inserted cartridges are Wincester manufacture. maybe a ten gallon hat would have nice to rest it on.

Wonderful colors, great detail and sharpness.
Is it a still life? I think yes! But somehow -at least for me- there is motion / activity in the picture... maybe my instinctive flight behavior! :-D

While I like this very much (I am a gun nut), I keep looking for the rabbit or pheasant, or both. Seems incomplete. Nevertheless, this is in my top 5.

Zio: Thanks for the comment. Not sure what you mean by strange interpretation. Catch you when I get back :-)

RAF: Welcome back. Thank you for your comment. The base was a plastic diffuser from a lighting fixture - part of my cobbled together lightbox. I shall have a better one next time :-)

Strange interpretation of theme...But well composed....

so crisp, so well lit, well composed. Love the image. Hate the pattern on the base. A small quibble on an otherwise terrific image.

Jade: Many thanks. This is my first try at a formal 'still life'. The lightbox was a real jury rigged mess under my patio umbrella. I must make a proper one.
My Dad had this gun custom made for him but passed away before it was delivered. I'm not into hunting but love to shoot skeet once in a while. This gun is difficult to handle for skeet but has a wonderful feel to it.
My apologies for not making any comments this time. Just wanted to put in my vote before leaving but just had to reply to your post. Much appreciated as always.

This looks light it was shot in a lightbox, the lighting and tones are so well balanced. Not the sort of still life that I would have expected for the Challenge but within the frame of the definition so it gets my vote. To me, the best technical image (ie. quality of image) in both Challenges.
