Thanks to everyone for their votes and comments. nb The curved building in the background with the windows is a live LED screen - super effective!

Thanks also to Jade for an excellent subject.

Lo: Thank you. I will post some outtakes from Monday - The crowds were about the same, especially in the evening.

Bill: Many thanks. Your experience is showing - it was indeed hard to capture the 'scene'. NY has so many opportunities for a photographer. I am reminded of Sarah Jessica Parker ". . . so many choices, so many mistakes."

Zio: Thanks for the comments. There are 23,485.73 people in the shot (I have signed releases from each one) - I'm afraid that some of them did indeed get sliced LOL. I do know what you mean. The picture is not cropped but I had to frame it this way so that I included the single guy on the right.

LaRee: Much appreciated. I must admit I (heart) NY too :-)

I think that this is a wonderful crowd shot. So much going on, but easy to pick out and enjoy various portions of the image. I think this is more difficult to capture than it appears. In my TT.

Even though I've been there, its hard to believe the mass of people that congregates in this section of the city on a weekend. Great capture.

fc - Thank you. It's surprising how much difference the brick colour paint makes to the road.
Old Finn - Many thanks. 1st place Wow! I appreciate your comments as always.
Franz - :-D You would be amazed how friendly the whole atmosphere is. I'm claustrophobic, so I appreciate your sentiments. One does not feel closed in or threatened in any way. All these great comments are going to my head :-) Thank you!

    WOW!!!
About all the citizens of my hometown within one crossroad!
Oh my god! This place is so crowded, I couldn't stand it for a minute - for sure!
What a great finding for a street scene! Extremely great! ;-)

Jade, raf: I am blown away! Thank you so much. I found it very difficult to get a shot that reflected the amazing feeling and the energy of Times Square. raf - I am so glad that yo noticed all the action going on. Jade - there were bleachers close by and I wanted to climb up and get a shot looking down on the sea of people but I knew that you had asked for 'no higher than shoulder' shots. As it turned out, that was the best way to convey the scene - I think it makes the viewer more part of the action :-)

A really good example. You chose to break the group on the left up. Why? Because that fellow alone becomes so strong as the only solitary person in a sea of humanity. The signs above reflect the cacophony of colour below and we have a great sense of depth with people and buildings off into the distance. Interest at many levels, apart from the bloke in the red shirt, we have the one nehind him looking for his girl, we have the conversation in the middle with all four absorbed, we have the older trio behind equally involved, we have the bloke in red keeping the trash moving. A master class really.
