Thanks fc. Black velvet would certainly soak up the light.

Of course, the pen is mightier than the sword - so you have me beat

I always respect anyone who can joust with a sword in hand!

Sorry you didn't find it, Elliott. You're right about the length - It's the size of a real foil - about a metre long.

No Alby, Zorro's sword would have had a point on the end - this one was just for show.

ok, i've now spent three hours in the garage searching. one side of the garage is very clean now (no... let's just say a bit more tidy and lots of trash gone.) if it still exists somewhere on the other side, it's going to stay where it is for a while. i'm a pack rat. it wouldn't be like me to not have this anymore. brought mine back in '67. was maybe a meter long or shorter. thanks for the memories. el

Did you stole it from Zorro?....The composition is perfect...
But...Don't know...

Thanks Jade - The foil was a gift from a friend when I was involved in fencing many years ago When I thought of using it for the challenge, I was disappointed in how much of its original detail it had lost - of course the photographer probably added to the problem by not using a timed shot.

Raf thanks - I couldn't bring myself to show the foil at its worst - a question of heart over art, I think.

Rosenfeld - I
Thanks for your comment, agree with your suggestion regarding the background - I really need to find a cloth that soaks up the light better - this one has too much texture.

Elliot - I really wish I had been the one visiting Spain - I probably would have brought back all of the things you mentioned, and then some. The sword was circa 1970 - does that fit with when you bought yours?

i think i still have one of these. it didn't survive the years as yours did. may still be in the garage. at the time, you brought home a wood carving of don quixote, a poster from 'la corrida', maybe a bota, or maybe one of these. thanks for sharing this one. and good circle capture. el

I think that compositionally, this is the best of the lot. I like the diagonal line and the placement of the central circular element. I just wish that there was less noise. Perhaps darkening the background even a bit more would get rid of that or make it less noticeable. One of my top picks.

Some Toledo steel. I like the composition and the DOF. I can see that the foil has aged but I really want that to be a lot crisper so that I can see every year of rust and age on this lovely handiwork.

A beautiful work of craftsmanship well photographed excepting only I cannot tell whether the lack of detail and sharpness is in the subject or in the photographer. Either way, very well composed and a great find for the Challenge.
