You're still the Master, incredible Holmes!

All good questions and all posed by 6:07 p.m. And who knows how long it took for you to find my original comment...

Maybe it is about time to try some Scotch!

    Hi Jade:

It is now 5:36. I am SO happy that I have a comment on one of my entries - Nooooo. It is not my lousy current entry - it is this old one LOL

I have questions:

1. Why didn't you post your question with my current entry:-)

2. Why do you have to be so feminine and leave this till the last possible moment LOL

3. Who the heck is Davep ?

4. Why does he live in Milton Keynes?

5. What is Alberto's 'worm' building doing in the Open University? (that's what I first thought it was :-)

6. I had to drive all over the place with Google view to find that building and by the time you challenged me it was already dark in the UK !

7. Anyway - Welcome to Panachallenge Davep. And my condolences if you know Jade LOL LOL

8. 6:07pm - Not bad.

Michael, Here is a Challenge for you with only hours to go before the B&W voting ends. Can you identify Davep's entry?! (A Challenge worthy of Holmes! - The solution is, of course, elementary. Watson)

Jade - I agree. The fact that his request was accepted is also a lasting tribute to the stupidity of the Federal government at the time. Did you ever see that great comic strip, The Wizard of Id. The King boasts that the kingdom is like a giant melting pot. His knight, Sir Rodney says 'Yes, all of the stuff at the bottom gets burnt and the slime rises to the top.' LOL

A daily scene that we all put up with - roadworks grrr, still at least you will get the trams /streetcars at the end of it so they should be worthwhile.

There's a lot going on in this photo - it's like a little slice of life in any Canadian city on a summer's day.

Jade. Thanks very much. Your comments reflected the struggle I had choosing from several different shots. I appreciate your intuition.

vanpraag. Thanks for the link. Amazing that you found exactly the same spot. You have solved a mystery for me (Toronto is five hrs from where I live in Ottawa). I could not believe that they were installing streetcar tracks on a street that never had them before. The excavator in my photo was tearing up the bare asphalt road surface - there were no old rails. Behind the machine you can see a policewoman standing on bare asphalt. In google, that part of the road is rubble and as you google along you come to streetcar tracks embedded in concrete. Evidently the tracks and concrete were torn up a long time ago as shown on google and the road was then paved until it was time to install the new tracks (I wonder how much that cost). I can only guess that someone did not budget for installing new track when they tore up the old. Seems like a typical Toronto way of doing things. Toronto is our provincial capital and have a reputation for massive, uncontrolled spending.

One year we had a major snowfall (this is Canada remember). Toronto had not budgeted enough money or equipment and could not handle it. They called in the Army !!! The army had little snow clearing equipment (not their normal role) so we had thousands of soldiers with shovels helping where they could. You can just imagine how this farce built up their moral :-{ As usual the rest of Ontario's cities and villages were able to dig themselves out. Actually they did it rather efficiently. It is rumored that the fact that Toronto was so wrapped up in crying about their snow, they were unable to provide the usual amount of bureaucratic interference that normally bogs down the rest of the province. LOL

Yes, they wreck the pavement and ruin the road in order to make progress. TT. Love it.

I feel more sharpen is required. I otherwise like the documentary nature of this street scene capture and it's deceptively "simple" composition which is anything but. There is a real sophistication in how this is put together; this reminds me of some fine art paintings of Toronto in its composition and textures.

raf- Thanks for the comment. I'm amazed at how well my little Fuji waterproof camera works. It's all I had with me.
