Many congrats Jade!!! really a very original image, looks better each time I look at it :-) I preferred this one to your Open entry, that was also a nice take, had it also in my favs, but finally not TT because I felt it a bit "overdone" at the sky (haloing), anyway, a couple of great images, well done!!

Congratulations on your finish, Jade. (I'm thinking this silo is leaning a tad to the right! LOL! ) :-)

Sorry about that - I did try to get you higher when I voted LOL. It's my magnifying glass - it got dusty since I retired - or maybe you are right about the meds :-)

    Hi Jade!

Yours was my second favorite. Still I was in doubt because while the composition is pleasent to the eye, I have difficulties in seeing the ruin.

But watching closely, I could see some ruin here and there so it ended up high.
Congratulations!
Cheers :-)

Better than winning is being right on the vote. My top 4 were the final top four, although not quite in that order. I had this as #3. I like it very much. A good idea and nice comp (better I think than the Open version). Congratulations on a fine top five finish.

I'm impressed - 4th and 6th with the same subject - that's really difficult to do. Shows just how well you were able to use different perspectives to create two strong and unique photos.

Thank you all for your votes and comments. Glad I did not fall into the well on the way to this shoot!

Thanks, Mepo, but I think that's a 4 and a 6! LOL! Check the meds, that's my advice!!

Thanks, Billy. It was tight on top for no reason other than how I felt it looked best. See outtakes for how I really wanted to show this one.

Congrats on your 5 and 6. Well deserved. I must admit I did wonder about the prescription but I've flown with some pilots whom I'm sure were on something . . . don't get me started LOL.

Maybe I would have cloned out the little distraction at the bottom, also it's just a little bit tight on the top; otherwise, a very original take on theme, almost abstract and very appealing. Well done!! :-)

Una, to be honest, so do I! I do wish more would critique what they don't like so I appreciate your candour. See outtakes later for how I would have oriented this one.

Great composition and minimal appearance!

Lo You are not the only one to notice the cross - but I wasn't sure any others would. I chose two silo entries over other possible subjects since I liked this silo and wasn't sure which shot to enter.

This silo looks magnificent from both of the angles you've chosen. In this one, I really like the way the curved shadow accents the opening, and the symbolism of the cross that draws your glance upwards.

Thanks, Michael. I saw the religious motif as well but could not do much to enhance it. The light was at the right spot when I arrived here. So you have me pegged with this shot but betting you'll never figure out which is my Open entry! LOL!

My #1 first time through and it has stayed there, despite knowing who took the shot LOL. Absolutely super composition. I like the image of the cross formed by the light and the hole in the wall, leading the eye up to the sky - very evocative. You could add the rungs of a climbing ladder on the left to that suggestion also. Perfect fit for the theme - ruins indeed. Congratulations on a great photo.

Thanks, LaRee. Had no idea about that bit of history but appreciate your point; I'd be interested to know why that rule was in place before given the digital darkroom is so much a part of digital imaging and this is a two stitch panorama - the poor man's wide angle lens (since my widest angle is 35mm equiv.) It seems the rule would rule out a Challenge category called Panorama.

I love the geometry of this and the color. The bit of texture in the concrete is nice too. I am picky about composite images in these challenges. Although I suppose at this point in time they are not expressly disallowed, there was a time when they were not allowed. If it was a single frame it would rate much higher for me.

elliott I think we think alike. I'll post in outtakes the way I was going to submit this one -- for dramatic impact rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise. I actually prefer that perspective but thought this one would be more accepted. I'm not sure that I should compromise based on what I think others will think.

SteveBee The close crop was deliberate - and inevitable as that is where the image was framed out of the camera - I was of two mind on the saturation and went with this one. My alternative was to do more of a silhouette effect without the wall details visible in the shadows. Always appreciate having your comments.

i like both of these for their abstract qualities. i like when a photo of something becomes something else to the eye than what i actually is. high in my favorites. good luck. el

I like the perspective and composition, except the silo opening may be framed a little close to the top and side. I don't care much for the HDR and the oversaturation.

raf The grainy artifacts are a result of the HDR. Glad it makes your TT but not sure this one will TT overall.

fc Had to choose between HDR to bring out the tones or just do a black panel with blue and sun highlights. Not sure HDR was the right choice.

Love the shapes lines and colours. A very striking composition. A clear TT for me

Only criticism here is that either in the image or PP some of the blue sky areas have got a little grainy with some artefacts along the edges, Particularly noticeable in the small bit of sky. Of course that may be what happened on downsizing too. Not a major issue but important if you were to print.

    in my top ten.
the first glance was it graffitti but a good use of colour with the eye drawn to the rich blues
