Thanks Raf and Alby - I was happy with the highlights - I think the fault lies in knowing the subject too well - which I do - and forgetting that the people who are voting on her can only see what I give them, and can't fill in the unknowns like I can.

Cannot make up my mind if I want a little more light or not. I actually quite like the highlights and think that is perfect, perhaps a little more very soft light from the front to get a little more form and shape would be the answer.

I agree with both of you, Jade and Elliott -the .jpg version had a reddish cast that gave the photo more life, but I felt it might not be low key enough. The statue is really hard to photograph - very tall and stylized - but she is beautiful. Some day I'll do her justice.

I like the lighting but dislike the bluish hue on brown. To me the subject is interesting but insufficiently framed to really make a statement but I am at a loss to decide how I would have done this differently. Because the subject is interesting, I think the flaw is in the execution but I just don't know what it is that fails to make this pop. Perhaps a secondary light source from behind (perhaps reflected light off a flat background material) might add a silhouette effect which would allow the statue to have a more dramatic impact.

i like this but it needs a little more or a little less..... can't make out enough detail. either crop for emphasis on head and head dress carving, or add a little fill light from the left front to show what she is holding or touching. in my favorites. good luck. el
