Very funny :-) - I was racking my brains to try some way to make it equal 42.

Well, it got the Ottawa vote in! Thank you all for your votes and comments. This was a fun shot to play around with but the theme is meant seriously; we are fortunate by and large to live in peace here.

I was really impressed with this shot - still am - the more you look at it, the more you see...

My #3 Jade. I guess we all react to photos in some part from personal experience. Sherlock really is retired but I just can't help saying something when the author jumps out at me so clearly:-)

Ronoz See my reply to raf below for my concept.

Lo No question that to me, two nations living side by side in seemingly unending conflict is completely alien.

Michael I, too, noticed the thumbnail face effect - it was completely unintended. (The Master (a.k.a the Sleuth) is back!)

Mmmh interesting & perhaps a tad controversial, ie socio -political commentary blended with excellent PP skills , in my TT

I really like this composition - Seen in the thumbnail, the eyes take on a worried cast, then in the close up, they take on an alien, preditorial look. The lighting is really superb.

Interesting how the thumbnail looks like a real face. In the full size, the effect produces contradictions in my brain - well done. Love the symbols in the eyes. I'm guessing the Turkish half moon was acquired in the Daytona harem :-)

LaRee. Thanks. Never know how much detail to put in PP and remembering all the steps in a creative process is difficult at the end sometimes. Roughly as best I can remember, this is:

Open Layers/duplicate image/increase canvass size to roughly double image width/flip top layer image/move layers so I have mirror image roughly/convert to b&W/create Star of David and Star and Crescent in Gimp/resize/colour to alpha to remove white background/resize to add to pupil/cut and paste iris/resize to fit pupil on right/arrange layers/create duplicate layer/levels to black/fiddle with opacity/cut centre to create vignette/adjust opacity/overlay/selective burn to gray and black/selective dodge to gray and white/ flatten++/clone out minor skin flake on finger/crop/resize/sharpen. For everything up to ++, I simply summarized as work done with "layers."

Hope that helps.

Very interesting interpetation on the theme. Way too gimmicky for my taste. In addition, I find your explaination of post processing to be lacking to support the results.

raf My concept was that the Six pointed star and, Star and crescent, are representative of the Jewish and Islamic faiths. Two great world religions which are reflected in the inner souls of devote men of their faith. The link is an up-date of breaking stories in the middle East where conflict dominates so much of life. Reading the links for me is like attempting to find differences in the actions of each side. In conflict, they seem more alike than dissimilar, two sides of the same coin of intolerance and acrimony. The photo is a symbolic representation of that intolerance, each a virtual mirror reflection of their immediate neighbour, yet neither side looking into the eye of the other, each holding a hand to deliberately block the view not only their fellow man, but also to block the very light of understanding (emanating from knowledge and God) from shining upon them. The light reaches their eyes (and enters their souls) so they are not completely ignorant and yet each willfully refuses to turn to face it, and hence in refusing to turn to the light, they will never turn to truly see or understand each other. (Metaphorically speaking.)

The quote is a non-metaphoric reference to the actual words spoken to outsiders to the conflict who question why, given their mutual commonalities, both sides cannot find a way to live side by side in peaceful co-existence.

I left it to the viewers to determine how they would interpret this image.

forkcandles Thanks.

Ok the base shot is awesome and would probably have been high TT without any of the other bits and pieces.

The shadow around the eyes looks created in places eg inner edges near hands. Not sure what the link refers to. In the end I think all the bits (stars and moon eyes) are a little gimmicky rather than being creepy.
