The names fade but the memory lingers still ...       ©2011 flossie
Panasonic DMC-FZ38       9th place, 81 points
1/250s, f5.6, ISO 80, 129mm, Landscape, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: crop, layer, greyscale, mask, reveal colour, flatten, resize.       Extra Info: The poppy has been a symbol of remembrance for 90 years and whilst memories of 'The Great War' fade, I am immensly proud of my children for marching with vetrens of more recent conflicts, and especially my son for laying a wreath on behalf of his sea cadet unit.

With the shrubbery on the left being so similarly-colored as the monument, this may have been better in color. I think the subject would have stood out more. As it is, this photo needs more contrast to help the viewer enjoy more of the detail.

What a beautiful treatment of this Remembrance Day symbol. Well done!

The selective desaturation works very well in this image.

Just spotted the black dot in the middle of the stonework - poor mouse skills this end I'm afraid! For me it detracts from the image because it draws my eye - aggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

    Thankyou forkcandles.
again, a passing shot - I took nearly 100 photos on the day of the parade, wreath laying ceremony and service, but failed to take a portrait shot of the memorial after laying the wreaths. this is slightly cropped to remove an unknown person on the right hand size

Well captured and the text says it all. I wonder if you had a portrait version to get whole memorial. I also like the colour separation of the triangular display of poppies. Well done no 2
