  #111 Contrast
Entry 8 of 14

Adam & Eve       ©2011 Jade O.
Panasonic DMC-FZ30       8th place, 73 points
1/4s, f2.8, ISO 200, 35mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Desaturate, cloned out one distracting mole, smudge, overlay, scale.       Extra Info: Started as an interracial concept but had more photographic punch in monotone where the different skin tones became indistinguishable.

Think this is one that can be seen many ways so would like to know how you see it and what you might have done differently.

You should stick with the feminine figures - it's your forte.

Thank you for all your votes and comments - the critique especially! The human figure is so challenging and you've driven home the importance of getting it technically perfect.

No need for embarrassment. If you can't figure it out I failed so I appreciate the feedback. The concept was a contrast between mail and female forms and I tried to get creative by doing just the lower abdomen. My original concept was to contrast the two different skin tones but the contrast became hard to see in monotone so it was sort of the greater contrast is between man and woman and not the colour of our skin but in the end this is what I ended up with.

I'm embarrassed to say I could not quite figure this one out.

Lo, Mepo. I appreciate the critique and I agree with you both. I found out that shooting figures is a lot harder than shooting fruit.

Since you ask - I would have let the right side stand on its own. Imo it is an almost perfect study. The shape and texture, almost like a tulip, are pleasing to the eye and have an almost calming effect. Perhaps the left figure would be effective given your original intention but is now a major distraction. When I take a card and block off each side in turn I only intensify my dislike for the left side.

I think the portrait of Eve is incredible - the way the shadows define the form. The blurring on the male portrait unfortunately detracts from the photo - but it's a great idea for the theme.

oof I thought the contrast between man & woman was obvious.... but obviously not. :-(
On a technical note, the problem with the focus wasn't obvious until I set to work on the image and then it was too late to reshoot.

fc Always appreciate your comments.

it is a great shot.. artistic..
but there is no much contrast anyway.. especially aperture makes the man a little blurred.

Wow what a picture. Using black and White makes this work
