Easter Sunrise       ©2012 mrsawyer
Panasonic DMC-FZ50       6th place, 117 points
1/125s, f4, ISO 100, 35mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: composite of two photos, cropped, resized, curves, remove color cast       Extra Info: The two photos are from the annual Easter Sunrise Service held atop a mountain near my home. The composition consists of a photo of the Easter sunrise and a photo, taken a few minutes later, of the cross erected for the morning service.

(My apologies to Jade O, or is it just sunsets you don't like?!?)

Thanks for the helpful comments everyone. I have never tried combining two photos before, so I was not sure how it would turn out. - The sunrise was amazing. I took several shots of it because it kept changing rather quickly from one interesting vista to another.

Jade: I initially included both ends of the cross, but it was too centered. So I opted for this crop.

Love the composition and the sky especially.

The colour of the sunrise is spectacular - it must be amazing to attend this Easter service. The cross is beautifully simple, and reminds me of Tennessee Ernie Ford's song about the "Old Rugged Cross". IMO the angle you have chosen is just perfect.

Nice angle, very dramatic sky. The drama is created by your choice of perspective.

No apologies needed; I only dislike sunsets shots of sunsets. I might have backed off a smidge to reveal the edge of the cross on both sides but agree with your choice of location of the bolts more or less on the 1/3 x 1/3 axis.
