Mepo Saw your outtake. Now that's imagination in action!

Lo That's why I don't play with live wires. I probably wouldn't have thought about the water!

Congrats Jade - Let's face it - you do have a good eye and good imagination.

I'd say the use of a pool of water was pretty inventive- glas you weren't photographing live wires!

Thanks all for your many comments and votes. I am surprised this did so well.

ehstebann, Enough? Probably, but don't think for a moment I actually know what I am doing! (BTW "@2004 Sunbeam Products, Inc. All rights reserved. Sunbeam is a registered tradement of Sunbeam Products, Inc. used under license by L'Image Home Products. Montreal, Canada H3B 3X9" and again in the french language.)

    4s with f10... wow.
Too bad that the contrast on the 9V Sunbeam cell is not good enough to recognize the different lines of text.
I love the reflection.

Is such a high f-number necessary for a macro shot? Wouldn't , let's say, f5 be "enough" for the needed depth of field?

ambaker The saturation works with the black background. But really, I'm beginning to self critique these reflection shots as a cheap gimmick akin to sunsets in my book.

I like the saturation of the colors, and the reflection really makes this shot. Nicely done!

mrsawyer That reflection is a result of a couple of factors not least of which was the pool of water causing the reflection.

Michael, no water reflection with the pears though.

Sharp and colorful, and full of potential electricity (or are they all dead batteries from the old battery drawer?) LOL
I stared at this to try to figure out what happened with the distorted reflection. Somewhat disturbing, that distortion. Good job overall.

The last time I saw a reflection like this it was covered with pears - this time there's an odd number. Good eye catching composition - right on theme.

Thanks Lo, but see also my answer to elliott below. Then to show just how humble an effort this is (since it really is a still life shot in a controlled setting), check out the work of Alina Lankina at 500px.com especially this wondrous effort: http://500px.com/photo/14328867

Great composition and vibrant colourts against the black background

elliott No question I was out of ideas for this Challenge. Playing with live household voltages didn't spark my interest. The reflection is actually partly poured water on a black metal surface (filing cabinet) hence the ripple. I wanted an off-angle multiple reflection so that part was deliberate on my part.

the main with these batteries made a lot of sense. i'm having trouble making sense out of this one. i copied it and played with it to see what you did rotation for. but still unsure of your end result. (and the tilt gets too obvious on the gold battery on the right side.)
lighting, color, and focus great.
still will get in top ten.

hifi You're back! I'm so excited! Thanks for the encouraging words. Hope we see you back with some entries soon!

StevenT I tried to make this pop but honestly, I have a real problem with reds with the FZ-30.

fc Thank you!

I like your technique. The mirror image and black background work well.

I love the vivid colours here. That's quite a collection of batteries. This was in my top ten choices for the challenge.
